Spinoff: Best vacation

Recommended Posts

What makes a great vacation and what's you personal best experience?

For me, was probably my honeymoon in New Zealand. Drove around the S Island in a camper van, alternating sleeping in the camper with a couple days at several different resorts. Great scenery, good food, land and water activities, and best of all, barely any other people.

Also have been lucky enough to take several skiing, biking, climbing and backpacking trips, all of which have been awesome but less variety than NZ.

Now that I'm an adult, best has probably been Puerto Vallarta because that's where I proposed to the wifey.

A great vacation for me is being able to explore and participating in activities. I like to visit forests, mountains, beaches, etc and fish, ski, hike, etc

Honeymoon in Europe is the best vacation I have had. We got to explore castles, toured cheese and chocolate factories, walked around the towns.

Another great vacation I had recently was a fishing trip with my dad, brothers, and brother-in-law in south carolina, lots of fish were caught.

Maui with the Mrs.. Breakfast, snorkel, lunch, snorkel, get cleaned up. go to a movie, go to dinner. Rinse and repeat. Did the main luau and drove around on the island. Also did the Molokini crater snorkel trip on a huge catamaran. I am so lucky I didn't get myself eaten by a 1000 pound Tiger shark. I swam out of the crater into deep water by myself actually looking for a shark on the bottom. Didn't find any. The first night we were back in Cali, I saw a film on the major shark problem they were having there.

Got married in Hawaii and had a 2 week wedding/honeymoon.

My trip to New Orleans for SB in 2002 during Mardi Gras and first Pats win was pretty much off the charts too.

Ooooh that's tough. I'd say it was the last time we went to Maui.....

We rented a jeep, and it was me, my dad, brother and brother in law.....did the entire Road to Hana around the island.....got out a bunch and randomly hiked until we found waterfalls, swimming areas, etc. Easily one of the best days of my life spending it with those guys there.

Leaving for the Outer Banks on Friday. Looking forward to just sitting on the beach and doing absolutely nothing. All my vacations have been great but it seems like I do too much on them. It'll be good to finally just completely relax on one

I've partied in and vacationed in 40 of the continental 48 states. I have a lot of stories.

For me and my family we go to Montauk (eastern most point on Long Island) every year with same group of friends. Awesome time. Drinking on beach from 11:00AM to 5PM everyday. Then BBQ for dinner and back on beach for Bon fire.

This year 18 kids. 15 boys and 3 girls.

Kauai Hawaii. What a gorgeous place to visit. Everything we ate was top notch. A lot of fun people too. Me and the wife had a couples massage in a back yard that over looked the waimea river. During the massage it sprinkled for about 30 seconds and was extremely refreshing.

Maui was a fantastic experience. We stayed at a smaller boutique resort that shared priveledges with the 4 Seasons and Grand Wailea. All the amenities and activities, but back to a place that lacked the "fun" stuff that would encourage people with kids to stay there.

Personally, I'm not a big vacation activity guy. Maybe one touristy thing; in Maui we did a luau (which is almost mandatory) and a kayak whale watching trip for 2 hours. Aside from that, I just enjoy the separation from phone/internet/everything. Can sit on a beach/balcony all day with a cool drink and some music.

More than anything for me is time. I'm not a quick 3 day getaway traveler. Have one this weekend and, as much as I look forward to the event, it'll wear me out. 5-10 days is what I like.

Corfu Greece. All over Italy. Milan, Florence, Naples, Rome, Pisa....for the leaning tower, Venice, Swiss Alps, amalfi coast, and many little towns here and there. I still love the south in America tho. South Carolina is one of my favorite places to visit. Charleston, Beaufort, fripp island, the low country is freaking great.

Dominican Republic. Met two nurses from Cleveland at the casino. These two gals were not getting along. The older Milfy one got S faced and went back to her room. Took the younger (34/36c) for a walk on the beach and and had her bent over an up turned boat. Nice ride. Next day a torrential downpour happens, and Milfy knocks on the door. Looked good with the wet hair. We go at it all afternoon. Filthy mouth on that one. Got her to tell me her sexual history, big turn on. Juggled them for a day and a half and they were gone. It was funny listening to them talk trash about each other, calling each other sluts. It was all I could do to keep my mouth shut.

It really depends. I just got back from a week on the beach, which was great. Never really ventured more than a couple of miles from the house. Never ate out. Drank like a fish.

I've been spending summer breaks in Jamaica for maybe the last ten years. Montego Bay is my resort choice. It's absolutely paradise. I'm hoping to get a teaching job there so I can live in paradise and vacation in the states a couple of weeks a year,

I lack both Dakotas, Wyoming, Idaho and Alaska. Hoping to knock off Alaska next summer.

Got married in Vegas and was there for a week (stayed/got married at the Venetian) and then went to Italy 6 months later for our proper 2-week honeymoon. Combined, they were by far the best! Separately, I'd have to say that Italy was the best with the week in Vegas being a close second...what a time we had!

Nice! I went there a couple years ago and it is beautiful. My sister lives in New Hampshire, so I have little excuse not to knock a few more off my list.

I've been to a lot of places but Kauai is prolly my favorite. So much diverse climate on such a small island -- rainforest, sunny beach, desert inland.

Second fav was a combo trip to Barcelona and Rome. Totally different type of vacation but lots to explore.

It's got to be a Dyson. We keep going cheap and buying a vacuum every year. I really try to keep ahead of hair build up on the beater bar, but it burns out the motors real quick. Also, there seems to always be twist ties on the kitchen floor. They are no friend of Hoovers, I can tell you that.

Been there too. Very nice countryside, especially the mountains. A lot of stuff to do outside the resorts, which is the key.

This. I'm done with cruising. Pack the ice chest. Fire up the grill. Eat out a few nights. Jet ski and play on the beach all day. Golf. Rinse and repeat. Sometimes I forget how lucky I am to live in the Gulf coast area.

I thought pretending to confuse the words vacation and vacuum was funny last night. In my defense, I had never bought a bottle of moonshine before. :D

I just went and checked the 2cool site. I will return there. Thanks.

Lately, I had been checking out Florida inshore fishing websites. It is my dream to end up there.

My vacation this year has gotten me in the mood. My vacations vary on what I want. Sometimes I like to go rent a house out on the lake, rent a boat for the week, and spend the week fishing, wake boarding, and tubing. Occasionally rent a jet ski. Love the peacefulness of the lake. Others I like to be at the beach on an ocean front beach house or resort.

Rented a one bedroom little house with a pool/hot tub on the edge of a cliff in St Bart's. Cool island. Definitely wins best vacation. I am partial to Bermuda living on the east coast. If you compare quality of beaches to he effort of getting there, Bermuda wins hands down. Best beaches, golf courses restaurants, it's actually a mostly nice place away from the port. Love driving around mopeds to little beaches. And it's a short plane ride

My last job, I was there 10 years. It was a bit repetitive and I could kind of turn off my brain at work and just go through the motions. Not a ton of stimulation..... What I found was when I took a vacation, I was more interested in learning and experiencing new places. My days were packed and I was constantly moving from place to place. Loved it.

Now in a new career the past 2 years, I never get to turn my mind off. It's different projects and high stress anywhere from 40-80 hours a week. I rarely even get away from work on weekends completely, as there are always urgent emails and phone calls......so the last thing I want on a vacation is to land in a new city and immediately start checking items off an itinerary and to have places to be. Instead I want to know I'm doing nothing but sitting on a beach and drinking and nothing else for 4 days. Or I'm golfing with friends and drinking for 3 days. And that's it.

Way back when I was 11 and visiting my Grandmother and staying in her mansion and learning to swim and then going to Disneyland with my cousins.

All other vacations require me to pay lots of money (that I don't have) and do things I don't really like (but pretend that I do) just to make others happy.

My continuous go-to vacation is always Key West. I love the food, water activities, bars, history, architecture, etc... I try to get there at least once a year even though it is only a five hour drive away.
