JtmoneyJag 25 Posted September 10, 2014 Sue for what? He was busted (disagree with the threshold the league sets all you want) under the collectively bargained rules for the players. He may get a few games back...but doubtful his suit would do much. Policy is clear...get popped 3 times, get a year. The policy they currently have is clear, but if they change the policy then he would certainly have a strong case.
Sho Nuff 720 Posted September 10, 2014 The policy they currently have is clear, but if they change the policy then he would certainly have a strong case. He may...depends on how the new policy is worded as far as when things are retroactive to... My guess is instead of suing he appeals based on the new policy and receives a shortened suspension (if they don't already go back and shorten it). I am hopeful as I did stash him in a league where I drafted more RB heavy early and he would be a nice boost to my WR corps.
lostsoulny 2 Posted September 10, 2014 What about Gordon's DWI charge that happened after he was suspended, woudnt that count as a subsuquent and 4th violation regardless of what happens with the drug policy?

mrmostlymittens 7 Posted September 10, 2014 If there's a new policy he plays. He won't have to appeal. If not, he sues based on Ohio state law and has a very good chance of winning. The DWI has been postponed and the NFL will wait to see how it plays out before handing him another suspension.

More damming news is TMZ reported that they reached out to the NFL about the tape before releasing it so they could see it. NFL never got back with them... Goodell has some esplaining to do. BigD13 6 Posted September 10, 2014 Per Ian Rapoport via Twitter: @RapSheet: Player reps will spend the next 24 hours reviewing details on drug policy issues. If all goes well, vote in next few days — before Sunday. @RapSheet: From @AlbertBreer & me: Retroactive suspensions has not been divisive for potential new policy. If deal approved, new standards would apply. @RapSheet: What’s it mean? Players suspended in 2014 league year get new standards. If approved, Welker & Scandrick play Sun. Gordon more complicated. This might be the most encouraging news I've seen regarding the whole thing for Gordon. Sportsbooks don't put lines like this out to lose money. Now granted, the "No" is only 3-1 odds, but given the likelihood of some form of agreement being close to fruition, that's still a good chunk of change they could lose. If they are willing to do this, chances are they have a source close to the negotiations who knows how the revised policy would affect these players.
Frozenbeernuts 2,264 Posted September 10, 2014 I still wonder if his DUI played any part in the suspension. It shouldn't have because it hasn't finished in the legal system, but you never know with the ass clown known as roger goodell.

Or Vegas just sets odds that they think will get balanced action on each side and make money off the juice. Vegas doesn't know anything more than anybody else. All they care about is setting a line that they think will split the bettors down the middle.
p00h 85 Posted September 10, 2014 Gordon might still sit for x weeks though. He's a repeat offender, they're not just going to say F it, all is forgiven, go get em tiger! Temper expectations on him. Maybe 6 games. I'd take action on him not getting reinstated immediately with no suspension...

highsider5 36 Posted September 10, 2014 How would betting 500 trying to win 100 be a good deal? I've never bet on anything with such crap odds, is this a misprint?
jpcdds 26 Posted September 10, 2014 Would you trade Ivory for him right now? Obviously depends on who else you have at RB Even still... Ivory will never carry you to a championship... Gordon can... You could be getting a top 3 receiver one week into the season... Never happens...
bjsteel 34 Posted September 10, 2014 How would betting 500 trying to win 100 be a good deal? I've never bet on anything with such crap odds, is this a misprint? It's not a good deal, that's the point. If you are so sure that Gordon will be coming back (and apparently Bovada thinks so), then you would have to risk the $500 to win $100, Bovada is not going to make it so you bet $100 on Gordon coming back and winning $500, they would lose their arse. Serpent 51 Posted September 10, 2014 How would betting 500 trying to win 100 be a good deal? I've never bet on anything with such crap odds, is this a misprint? Well when you don't consider it a real risk, as someone else put it 84%. If you had to bet $1000 to win $1 that the NFL will play Week 2 games, would you do it? What about $1000 to win $10 that Obama will not be the President in 2018? I'd take those bets because they're pretty much guaranteed. There is slightly more doubt with Gordon, but apparently the idea is he is extremely likely to be back soon.

Antiramie 50 Posted September 11, 2014 Is that 100% IF the drug policy is accepted or 100% that the drug policy WILL be accepted and thus players reinstated? Either way, the side comment of his about the complexity of the entire situation leaves me with some doubt about his certainty.

Antiramie 50 Posted September 11, 2014 He was asked "What is the probability that these players are reinstated"? Mort answered " Oh, I think that there is a 100% chance they are reinstated, based on what I've been told". First, I just realized she says "reinstatable" and not "reinstated", which would make his response meaningless since we've known since the announcement was made that players' suspensions being reversed seemed plausible. Though he does seem to answer the question before she finishes, so now I'm even more confused as to whether he's saying 100% that they COULD be reinstated or WOULD be reinstated. He never says the word "reinstated" in his answer btw...just "100% probability". 100% reinstatable is completely different than 100% will be reinstated. Even if it's the latter, it's still unclear (at least to me) if he's answering about reinstatements IF a new deal is reached or if he's implying that he has knowledge that they will be reached AND players will be reinstated. Oh come on, man! Don't be a sourpuss, dawg. That Mort interview is the best news us Gordon owners (and gamblers like myself) have heard yet. Here's to Gordon's imminent return, and the fantasy football benefits all of us shall reap! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Antiramie 50 Posted September 11, 2014 Haha, not trying to be Debbie Downer, though I am rooting against him coming back right now. Just saying that if you analyze the wording of that conversation, Mort essentially just said stuff we've known for a long time or misread the question. I'm starting to think the Ray Rice debacle may put the drug policy on the backburner until it gets sorted out. I'm sure the huge backlash stemming from the Rice ordeal is going to be dealt with first before any time and effort are put toward something that is now in the caverns of media and public concern. Then again I'm probably wrong and I'll wake up tomorrow to Gordon being reinstated.
bfros 53 Posted September 11, 2014 Yeah, nothing new here. Mort is saying that **IF** a deal is reached, the deal will include the reinstatement of Gordon, etc. It all comes down to whether the deal is reached. The feeling around the league is that a deal will get reached, but a lot of this (I think) stems from hope rather than solid evidence that the sides are close. As this drags out, the chances of a deal being made grow slimmer. Remember, it's now the season and NFLPA reps are very busy with games each week. It's possible they table this until the post-season if a deal can't be met within a reasonably soon time-frame. There was talk of "next Tuesday" being a potential deadline they set. Also, the Ray Rice debacle has made the entire league and NFLPA hyper-paranoid about the need to make sure this new policy is super solid and well thought out....any more criticism from the media or public would be terrible for the NFL.
