NFL: 11 of 12 Pat's balls under inflated.

Recommended Posts

Any official word from the NFL yet ?

No, not yet. It may take a couple days. :)

Troy Vincent, the league's senior executive vice president of football operations, told The Associated Press late Tuesday in response to this report that the "investigation is currently underway, and we're still awaiting findings." He told "Pro Football Talk with Mike Florio on NBC Sports Radio" earlier Tuesday that the NFL expected to wrap up its investigation in "two or three days."

Can somebody, anybody please take the famous Code Red speech from Colonel Jessup (Jack Nicholson) in A Few Good Men and create a parody using Deflategate and Billy Belechick?

Please, I beg of you.

If anything this story is making Twitter really fun. People are making up meme's that are hilarious. Not sure how to post them here as you can't really post pictures for twitter....

My favorite so far had a hooded Belechick with his famous smirk with his hands behind his back holding a air pump thingy, looking at ref and it says in bold "Go Ahead, Weigh My Balls". The pic is funny and just typing it doesn't do it justice.

I think this is worse than Bounty Gate. Gaining an unfair advantage in a title game is and should be a big deal. It didn't affect the outcome, but it certainly could have. Telling your players to play football and hit em hard is not an unfair advantage.

One year suspension for BB if he is proven to have known anything. First and third round draft picks. If he isn't, it proves how fawked up the league is. Big market teams don't get the same treatment as small market teams.

The big difference with Bountygate is that the Saints tried to cover it up and lied. Notice that BB said that he will cooperate fully with the league. He is not going to mess with that. Payton could have just done the same and avoided all of the problems.

Anyone else hear the rumor that back during spygate, the evidence handed over by the pats included damming evidence of almost every other team doing the same thing.

A good reason why the league destroyed the evidence, and they don't want bellichik to spill the beans.

Only a rumor, but makes ya wonder. :ninja:

If he is proven to know anything about it, It's cheating in a title game with the Super Bowl on the line. He should be held accountable like Payton was.

Payton was made as an example to the rest of the league. Had it not have happend during the concussion investigations and multiple lawsuits by ex-players, the suspension wouldn't have been nearly as bad. Goodell used him as an example. A big market team like the Giants or Cowboys wouldn't have had the same punishment. It was a disgrace to the league and the fans how Goodell handled the situation.

What year was spygate ? And what years did the pats win the Superbowls again ?

2007

But.....

After meeting with Goodell on February 13, 2008, and despite the fact that the extent of the taping had been widely reported, Specter appeared to believe he was breaking news when he said that Goodell told him that Belichick had been engaged in the practice since he became head coach of the Patriots in 2000

They send in Lt. Daniel Kaffee:

Kaffee: *Coach Bellichick, did you deflate those footballs?*

Roger Goodell: You *don't* have to answer that question!

Hoodie: I'll answer the question!

[to Kaffee]

Hoodie: You want answers?

Kaffee: I think I'm entitled to.

Hoodie: *You want answers?*

Kaffee: *I want the truth!*

Hoodie: *You can't handle the truth!*

[pauses]

Hoodie: Son, we live in a world that has Quarterbacks with neckbeards, and those Quarterbacks need to be sent home to their mommas. Who's gonna do it? You? Rex Ryan? I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for Luck, and you curse the Patriots. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That Colts loss, while tragic, probably keeps the Cleveland Browns from tanking. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, makes a bunch of morons from the North East feel like they've accomplished something in their sad lives. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at Super Bowl parties, you want me on that sideline, you need me on that sideline. We use words like "We're on to Cinicinnati". We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a helmet, and try and block Vince Wilfork. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to.

Kaffee: Did you deflate those footballs?

Hoodie: I did the job I...

The Patriots used 12 backup footballs for the second half of Sunday’s AFC championship game after issues were found with most of the original 12 balls used by the offense in the first half, an organizational source told WEEI’s Joe Zarbano.

Team spokesman Stacey James confirmed to WEEI.com that the team had 24 footballs available, 12 of which were tested by the officials pregame and another dozen stored inside as backups.

After the officials found that the majority of the balls used in the first half were below the acceptable PSI as mandated by the NFL, the backup balls were brought in. According to the source, the backup balls were tested and found to be at the correct levels, and subsequently put into play — just barely in time, as the second half already had started by the time the testing was completed. This is why the officials stopped play and swapped out the kicking ball on the first play from scrimmage of the second half.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported late Tuesday night that 11 of the 12 game balls were underinflated. WEEI.com’s source recalled either 10 or 11 balls being a problem.

I like the suggestion to force them to do the next two seasons of Hard Knocks.

Belichick has to wear a suit on the sidelines and Brady has to get a face tattoo.

I think you forget about the Cowboys taking a $10 Million salary cap hit because they didn't collude with the rest of the league a few years ago.

Hoodie is the best in the history of the league at finding an edge. Most of the time it's doing stuff like correctly going for a 4th down because he has a great understanding of statistics. Sometimes his edges are legal, sometimes they're in a grey area, and sometimes they're illegal.

This time they were illegal and I'm sure there will be ramifications but my big takeaway is this:

I want a coach like him. I want that coach that's going to do everything he can to give my team an edge. He may cross that line sometimes but if he didn't ride that grey area I'm sure he wouldn't be as successful as he has been. As much as it sickens me to say it, greatest coach of all time.

As far as this specific instance goes I think the NFL needs to have a better way of policing this. Balls should be brought to the game by the referees, checked before the game, checked at halftime, and checked at the end of the game. It's silly that this ever even happened.

You missed the point. Payton was punished not just for the incident, but more for the cover up and lying afterwards. Bounties would have been much smaller if they did not treat it like Watergate (the original)

I get it. But many players from other teams admitted they had done the same thing. And many former players said the same.Hence the argument that everyone has done it. That being said, why didn't the league investigate those other teams. It was clearly a witch hunt to single out one team. If it wasn't, they would have gone around the league to see who else did it.

But they didn't because of the ramifications and embarks enemy it would have caused the league. They focused on one team. And it came about during the time the labor dispute and lawsuits being filed against the league were ongoing.

The Saints were scapegoated. Pure and simple. There is no way a team in a big market would have been punished so severely. Even if they tried to cover it up. Which, in my opinion , would have under the circumstances, considering the time line.

Question: is it in the leagues best interest to investigate every team now that says they have doctored balls? Or all teams for that matter. Investigate the entire league. Let's see who else that is guilty of the practice. Everybody does it is the main argument today. Let's find out if this argument holds true. If Goodell is a fair and just commissioner of the league, it's the only way to get to the bottom of this. And take it one step further. If a team tries to cover it up, what's the punishment if found guilty?

It's the only way to keep intergrity in the league and you know that will never happen under this commissioner. The owners would never let that happen.

Others teams do it, only one denied it for years and lied to the commissioner about it.

Peyton's smugness got in the way.

"I didn't see it. I mean, he spikes it every time he scores, so I don't know if that's flagrant or what," Brady told WEEI-AM on Nov. 14, 2011, via ESPN.com. "When Gronk scores -- it was like his eighth touchdown of the year -- he spikes the ball and he deflates the ball. I love that, because I like the deflated ball. But I feel bad for that football, because he puts everything he can into those spikes."

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/24980832/tom-brady-admitted-in-2011-that-he-likes-using-deflated-footballs

Probably just a coincidence.

Also...Gronk is probably one of my favorite players all-time. Dude is awesome.

Ok, within the next couple of days a patsy from New England's equipment staff will emerge to take the fall, and say they did it without belichecks or any prominent member of the pats orginizations knowledge. He just knew Tom liked them soft and did it on his own. Book it.
