Every QB wants the balls a certain way. Ball boys don't take it upon themselves to alter a football.

Not when it comes to the NFL and 1 is a Cowboys fan and the other an iggles fan and the topic is another NFL team.

So you guys saying it's a non-issue. What if the Patriots are found guilty of this? What if Brady or Belicheat gave the go ahead to deflate the balls? What's the punishment then? Nothing? A fine?

Not a fan of the Patriots, but I think this is a non-issue...

I think this, it seems wierd that the NFL is pursuing it, especially given that there seems to be a normality to it.....very odd.

Because they got caught. It's national news and makes the NFL look bad....That's why. If it's proven they did it on purpose. It's called cheating since there's rules against it.

My guess is that the Pats will not just let the league take away a pick or give a suspension without a fight this time. They fell on the sword for the Spygate thing. If Goodell wants to give them something other than a fine, then my guess is that you will read a ton in the press about other teams who have done the same and they will be looking for their pound of flesh.

This is such small potatoes, but people like a good Patriots cheating story so much.

I think that would be dumb, you do not pervert the quality of the super bowl like that, draft picks and fines seem like the way to go....

So send the message it's ok to knowingly cheat, but we'll still let you play??????

I have yet to hear one person claim that the Colts would have won if the Pats didn't cheat., That's not really an issue here.

Wow folks, you guys don't understand how all this works do you?

Let me try to clear it up.

1. Each team supplies their own balls, for use by their offense and their offense alone.

2. Most all teams and QB's like their balls a certain way and "tamper" with a new ball. Some like to rub the gloss off with a towel or pump it up or deflate it within the guidlines.

But you can't tamper with it but so much, it has to stay within the guidlines. You can't scuff the hell out it. You can't significicantly alter it. You can't pump it up past 13.5 psi and you can't delfalte it past 12.5 psi. All teams "tamper" with balls, but you do so within the rules.

Think of it like NASCAR. All the cars can be tweaked and tampered with but you can't go past X horsepower, or Y angle of the spoiler, etc. There are legal parameters to keep a level playing field.

Saying everyone tampers, isn't saying anything. The question is "Does every team tamper with the balls that go beyond what's actually legal?"

Only the NASCAR teams that knowingly exceed the X horsepower limit or knowling exceed the spoiler angle limit are considered "Cheating". Everybody else is tweaking and tampering, just within the guidelines and parameters.

Agree. The Colts are not nearly as good as the Patriots. That's what's surprising. They didn't need an advantage.

I see. But what about burden of proof etc? If they can't prove that it was a Patriot who did it? Or do they even need to? I guess I don't know all the rules or understand the implications very well.

Yeah, I have no idea how that works either. I guess they interveiw people to find out one of the following:

1. Did somebody order the Code Red!@#!

2. Was this some rogue ball boy or player or whomever on his own?

3. Was it an honest mistake? (Very well could be this)

Who the fock knows? The problem though is that because its the Patriots, its hard to give them the benefit of the doubt (#3).

The question is who else could have done it? The Patriots were in possession of the balls from the time they were checked and legal until the time they were confiscated and not. If it was one ball you could try to argue that the other team managed to sneak it out of play and alter it, but 11 balls?

KSB, no benefit of the doubt is warranted here.

I as a Patriots fan have no doubts that BB and Brady knew of this and wanted the balls with less air.

As stated earlier, if you think other don't do this or haven't, you're lying.

because it's the Patriots, it matters more and people want blood.

It sounds like there might be more people who are doing so "outside" of the rules that you mention. It does sound like you have made up your mind about that without a lot of evidence, though.

Can you provide a sports analogy?

Is there any other kind of cheating story?

People went crazy over both the Cowboy playoff games this year. People love controversy. It's ten days to the SB. You think this isn't gonna get discussed?

I heard a Pat's fan on talk radio trying to say it's a non-story because they won by so much. Yeah, cheating is ok if you end up winning by a lot. I honestly thought it might be drobeski.

Newbie nailed it on page 1. The fact that the Pats ended up blowing out the Colts is irrelevant; they didn't know that would happen before the fact. That would be like not penalizing a hockey player for boarding because the victim happened to not get hurt this time.

Man, you could commission whatever right wing hack site you wanted to conduct a poll and I would still not come close to you on the dbag scale.

If a Colts cornerback could tell the ball was under-inflated the first time he touches it, hard to argue Brady wouldn't notice.

Maybe it's only a thing because the team is known to cheat :dunno: I have to wonder whether or not we would ever hear anything if this were the Packers or maybe the Broncos? Are we only hearing about this because of the team in question?

Even worse.

Arrogant is not really something widely associated with Michigan State. I mean we've had a pretty good football team for a few years, our basketball team is generally pretty good, sometimes great, and widely respected. But nothing about MSU exudes arrogance.

Hard to say but the fact that it was the Patriots certainly makes it more interesting.

You're getting bogus information.

it was a linebacker and he said on twitter he had nothing to do with it.

Of course this is being blown out of proportion. It's small potatoes. On the list of "All things cheating" Deflating a football is pretty far down. However, If true and it was done on purpose, it simply validates what all the Patriot Haters have been saying and somewhat joking about even further.

The funny thing is that if it was the Colts who did this and won the game by 38 not many people would be piling on them. Instead it would be, "Good, it's about time the Cheatriots got a taste of their own medicine!"

I think this is valid, to a degree. But I have to wonder, would the NFL approach it the same way? I am not convinced that they would, though i agree with you that public opinion would sway exactly as you described.

Well, not sure about that, but maybe. I do think "past trangressions" plays a huge part in all of this with the public. How can it not...and it should. :dunno:

I think everyone knows that Bill and Pats find loopholes (for lack of a better term) in the rules and exploits them. There are a lot of people who also think Bill and Pats probably do more than that and cross the line (cheat). Things like video taping other teams and who knows what else in their minds. This story, no matter how small, simply validates those people. And it's hard to argue against them.
