Closed dad's checking account today.....here is the first thing I am doing with the money.

Recommended Posts

When my son arrives home tomorrow, I am giving him a big gift of cash and then taking him to the computer store, Computers Plus.

I closed dad's checking account today(The investment accounts are where most of the money is and most of that is in some kind of IRA).

Had to wait 45 days past his death date and since there was under 50K in the checking account, they just cut me a check for the remaining balance.

WAY more than I have EVER had in my checking account, lol.

First thing I am doing is giving my son 1000 bucks to do with whatever he wants.

He is probably going to build a custom PC just like he has always wanted to do. Which is why we are going to Computers Plus tomorrow. :D

Soon, I will have to figure out what to do with the rest of the money. Finical guy, I should meet soon. I am hoping Friday or early next week.

Should be able to build a killer rig. Get an EVGA 1060 for like $220. Pair that with a I7 7700k, and he'll be rocking. Just gotta find him a nice 27" monitor.

I put my parents inheritance into my kitchen for my wife and the rest into college for kids.

Since you have not had that kind of money, resist the urge to spend it all on items that are nice to have.

 Absolutely. Just going to blow a little. This is what he is getting, the 1000 bucks. Then, back to normal for the most part.

Actually, now that you mention it, we do have a riverboat close by I can gamble on, not sure where to get a good hooker though damn it.

Maybe I could double the money at the riverboat though.

Put it away for retirement and don't let it sit where you can dip into it easy. Do NOT just hand it to some financial planner.

Good luck bro

From what little I was told by the finical people that have current have the money, about 85-90% is in some kind of fund I would prolly have a penalty on if I cashed it out or something maybe, like an IRA maybe. Can't remember for sure as I was in shock hearing the amounts they were throwing at me. Should find out more in a few days or so.

I went to a pizzeria, I ordered a slice of pizza, the dude gave me the smallest slice possible. If the pizza was a pie chart for what people would do if they found a million dollars, the dude gave me the "donate it to charity" slice. I would like to exchange this for the "keep it".

I honestly thought that it was you that poasted it...I had to look at it again to realize it was that Frank character.

This is why GOTY is so focked up. Both of you idiots (and Mookz) continually have the best one liners here

Might I suggest you finally buy Pops a damn coffin and plot.

You can't keep him propped up in the LazyBoy forever.

Summer's coming and he'll start to stink.

I write jokes for a living, man. See I sit in my hotel at night, I think of something that's funny and then I go get a pen and I write it down. Or if the pen's too far away, I have to convince myself that what I thought of ain't funny.

Agreed. Mookz is the most clever, but Fandandy would be a good opening act. Always feel like Frank is just quoting someone else...

Looks like someone will be able to pay their DNDL fees this year! Baller status!

Might want to look into ordering all the parts from newegg, instead of going to whatever this computer store is. They're generally cheaper and have a better selection to build a good gaming rig. Your son prolly knows about the site. Most computer nerds like us do.

I don't need a receipt for a donut. I give you the money, you give me the donut. End of transaction.

Have you considered giving him 1k to invest in the stock market? That would be a good lesson for him.

I fill the ATMs for our company at times. We have one in a convenience store with an attached casino. Recently we were just blowing through money. I mentioned it to the gal at the bank (28B) and she was like "Yeah, it's tax refund time." Me:
