I worked for 20 years in NYC and you barely heard from the governor of the state. When you did it was about economic issues. NYC sent the tax revenue to the state, and they were left alone for the most part. Until Cuomo came along. The guy barely mentions the rest of the state. They aren’t the ones that will get him the nomination. The city will.

I stay quiet about a few of my beliefs mainly because I'd probably lose friends and family from both sides if they knew. I see this a lot as well. I will say, the worst of it is on social media. For the most part though, I think people generally have a greater number of friends who have similar political beliefs, without even actively doing it. Meaning, I will gravitate more towards people who have similar beliefs as me, in general. Without even trying to be political, people talk about things that are going on in everyday life. The people who you share similar opinions to, generally you have more to talk about and hence, get along better with and become better friends. I was never really much into politics until about 10 years ago. Politics rarely came up in my circle of friends. I've found that in the last 10 years, the people I hang out with more are either anti-politics or conservatives. The friends that I had that are liberals, I don't really talk to that much anymore. Normally, when I do see them, they're always the first ones to say "I'm not talking politics", but throughout the night will throw in subtle political jabs. Anyway, the point is, that disconnect started before I paid more attention to politics and not in the last 10 years. I have aunts, uncles, and cousins with whom I've talked to somewhat regularly in the past, but now, they may not even admit we're related. That happened from their side, not mine. Cloaca du jour 2,147 Posted January 7, 2021 The biggest thing ruining our country is the lack of trust. We are so becoming communist. You cant believe what your read in the media, the results of elections, what you see in pictures..the media..your neighbor..everyone is unable to think for themselves. The dumbing down of America is rooning everything. We are on a bobsled to hell. It doesn't matter what side you are on. Ignorance is bliss.
Hardcore troubadour 14,953 Posted January 7, 2021 Sorry, but I remember when the left would have actual policy and economic discussions. Remember the whole “one percent thing” and the “money has to be taken out of politics” discussion? The left took it from ideas to telling people what they are. “You’re an uneducated, racist bigot and we are shutting you down”. But wait, I don’t like money in politics. I think the Uber wealthy have way too much power. Don’t you anymore? How come I wasn’t an uneducated, racist bigot when we agreed?

Mark Zucherberg spent 400 million dollars this election cycle. Anyone who thinks that’s ok is brainwashed. It wast ok for the Koch bros, it’s not ok for him. It’s not even brought up anymore. A lot of people that post that crap to each other on social media rarely even see each other in person. I see the same posts on Facebook and Twitter all the time. I’m sure that’s true for the most part. One of the gals in our accounting department was crying the week of Thanksgiving. She told me her sister just got done telling her not to come over for Thanksgiving or Christmas because she voted for Trump. Sister still won’t answer calls or texts. Another coworker had a bunch of neighbors over for a fish fry back in September. One of the neighbors hates Trump. He walks up to my coworker and asks who he’s voting for. Coworker says he’s not talking politics. They’re getting together to enjoy a fish fry and each other’s company. Guy says, that’s all I needed to hear. Fock Trump and fock you. Week later he asks my coworker and his son for some help getting his dock in. Coworker says, I’ll help you, but under 1 condition...”We’re not talking politics anymore. Let’s just be good neighbors.” Guy says the same thing. Fock Trump and fock you. Coworker didn’t help with the dock. I have supporters of each party within my family. We can all get together and hang out just fine. We don’t talk politics.
