JustinCharge 2,397 Posted March 3, 2020 Some people carry one and use it all the time. Others not. My dad for example used to always carry one. He use it to slice apples, open mail, dig out a splinter, cut wires (he was an electrician). Never seen him clean it tho. He kept it sharp and it was getting pretty thin because of it. I used to carry one as a kid. Mostly used it to cut tree branches or create / maintain walking trails or shape sticks when playing out in the woods. (For large trail maintenance, I'd borrow my dad's hedge trimmers). I had designated a tree out in the woods as a "memory tree". I would climb up this tree and carve short words or phrases in it way up high that only I could see to remember events in my life, sometimes with the date. KayJay1971 239 Posted March 3, 2020 I got one as a gift a few years back. I just looked at it and it does not have the brand anywhere on it so it may be a cheapie. The girls that gave it to me had the pocket clip engraved with "For better hallway vision". I use it at work for cutting things, not coworkers.

Utilit99 4,099 Posted March 3, 2020 I have about 8 pocket knives of varying steels and sizes and forms. Need to remember that blade length varies from state to state for being legal or not to carry. 2 Pumas which I love. The smaller size is the Packer the larger is the General. Great all around knives. 4 Spydercos of variying sizes from small to large. As far as comfort of use, these are awesome. I have a large Benchmade Mel Pardue edition. It's pretty big so I don't carry it really. Haven't really put it to the test yet. I have 1 Chris Reeves Small Sebenza 21. This knife kicks ass. They do a lot of Damascus version if you want to that type of stell and have a more customized look. They also have a bigger size as well. I like to stay under the 3" mark for everyday carry. SPECIFICATIONS Overall Length:6.875" Blade Length:2.94" Blade Thickness:0.13" Blade Material:CPM-S35VN Hardness:59-60 RC Blade Style:Drop Point Blade Grind:Hollow Finish:Stonewash Edge Type:Plain This steel will hold it's edge very well. And for a such a hard steel won't chip like other steels. You have to think through your sharpening method as this can be maintained very well, but it's not just a couple swipes against some kitchen knife sharping stick you may have. Plus it's not an easy one hand flipper if that is something you need. And it's expensive compared to others for sure.

Frozenbeernuts 2,264 Posted March 3, 2020 SOG Tomcat 3.0 is what I carry at work. I have it in a pouch on my belt loop. For me it's a beautiful knife. Just a great hold in the hand. I don't own one at this point, but I do like the VG-10 steel. It's being used more and more in kitchen knives because of it's it's durability and that it won't rust easily. I may look into adding one of these to my collection from a pocket knife perspective. I'm a sucker for knives like that that I don't already own.

That knife developed over the years. In '88 the SOG Tomcat 1.0 was Overall Knife of the Year in a collector's vote. At the time it used the 440c steel, and different but very solid locking mechanism. I would love to find one of those. I'm looking. But in the mean time, I would like to try out this knife for a while even though I normally carry some smaller Spydercos or a Puma regularly. I'm going to buy the Tomcat 3 to add to my collection. Glad you posted this.

jerryskids 6,799 Posted March 4, 2020 I have a bunch I've gotten over the years, my top two are Leatherman. I don't carry one regularly but these are the main ones I use: 1. "Wave," with a belt loop, use for hiking, moving, times where you know you'll probably need a tool but don't know which one. My daughter did an internship installing power systems; I got her an electrical engineering version of the Wave. 2. "Juice S2", not sure how I got this, I'm confident it was a gift, but it is the perfect combination of small pocket fit and required tools. IMO, a knife is worthless without scissors. Both this and the Wave have those, and pliers (also very useful). I use this for general gift/package opening and small house projects.
