Best way to sleep in a pickup?

Recommended Posts

I am going fish in matagorda bay Thursday night and Friday morning and I need to sleep in my truck.

What is the best way, in the passenger seat leaned back?

In the back seats folded flat?

Or in the bed of a truck?

I will be at a campground and it will be low of 63 with a 20% chance of rain.

I would normally take my wife's suv, however I have to tow my buddies boat this time.

Do you have a topper or tonneau cover on the truck? I've slept in the bed of mine many times, including nights with temps in the teens, and liked it way more than trying to sleep in a seat. But I have a tonneau. Not sure if I'd do it exposed if rain is a possibility.

Air mattress in the bed of the truck under the stars. If it rains, plan b is driver’s seat leaned back.

The mosquitoes will still be bad this week.  They were crazy a couple of weeks ago at dusk and dawn.  Passenger seat or back seat is best.  Where are you fishing?

I have a tonneau cover, but that is a tight fit?

I’d take a pillow, blanket and lay the passenger seat all the way back.

I assume you did well? The fishing is on fire right now.

It was pretty good.  My buddy's cousin lives in Port Lavaca so I had a nice place to stay.  Some nice reds and trout.  My prize was two 16+ inch flounder.  We ate one the day after I got back.  It was so good!

It was kind of an old school flash back....we were catching reds on gold spoons with the little red plastic "eyes".

What have you been throwing?

Soft plastics with rattle head jigheads around the marshes for reds, live shrimp under corks around the shallow structures for sheepshead, and live shrimp on the bottom around the wells for black drum.

We caught many types of fish recently with good luck everywhere. I hope it continues.

I hope to get a flounder this next trip, they are migrating, but I am new to wear matagorda bay.

These are awesome. I’ve seen a few guys use them for kayak tourneys.

Something simple like this might work for sleeping inside the truck.

That looks good, but I am not spending a grand on car camping.

Depends on how much room you have to reserve for gear. I slid it all over to one side and used a small air mattress on top of my BedRug. Just barely enough room to close the tailgate. Definitely won't work if you're over 6' tall or have a shorter bed on your rig. Claustrophobia may also be an issue if you're prone to that.

The mattress is a cheap option though.

That actually does look like a damn good way to sleep in extra cab pick up

Do you have the correct documentation?

Or is this another one of those lawless, texas poaching trips?

It sounds like the Gulf is the place to go. Matagorda Bay is over 300 miles from me in Fort Worth, but the fishing could make for a good trip.

You should just snuggle up with your buddy in the bed of your truck. Be a sport and let him be the big spoon for a change.

Any true outdoorsman travels with a bivy sack.

But I do understand how you greenhorns need to be close to your car to charge your cell phones.

Perfect. Leave the cover up if it's a tilt up like mine was and bring a tarp if you think it'll rain. Did this on an elk hunt YEARS ago. Bag, pillow and a mattress.

Your mom likes to lay in the backseat. Try that. And WTF took the rest of you so long?

Get a small one man tent and set it up in the bed of the truck. You can.use it any time you like. Any weather.
