and then there is tucker carlson, who is taking the lead on the issue and heavily criticizing the war and wondering where the billions of dollars are going and what is the real purpose of it all.

People flee NY to California too. I suspect weather is a much more likely reason than politics. 
 

And you’re right, DeSantis is certainly popular. But that’s not the same as suggesting he’s been a good governor. He hasn’t. Florida is going to have a ton of problems over the next few decades dealing with climate change issues. More than most states it’s going to have to deal with the extreme weather conditions of which that last hurricane is only a small preview. The priority of the state government should be to prepare for what’s coming and he hasn’t done this. To DeSantis’ credit he did a decent job when the last hurricane hit, he displayed a level of competence at leadership that his main opponent for the Republican nomination notably lacks. But overall, IMO, he’s been dreadful. Spends way too much time attacking woke issues to make his base happy than trying to solve actual problems.

Or it could be what it’s always been about: people from the north retire to Florida. Not sure why it is suddenly political now. Yankees spring training in Florida is a huge draw because of all the New Yorkers that retire there.

I did some searching and found that United Van Lines has tracked this for decades. Top reasons for moving: retirement, being closer to family, or a new job.

I jumped into the discussion late. Point is, most people don’t move because of politics. Job, family, and retirement are the biggest reasons. Florida has done well as a retirement location due to the weather, but they also figured out they should have no income tax, making up the difference by taxing tourists and property.
