I did some searching and found that United Van Lines has tracked this for decades. Top reasons for moving: retirement, being closer to family, or a new job.

Interesting in their latest numbers: used to be 60% of people moved because of a new job. After COVID, that number is about 30%. I know a lot of people whose jobs are completely remote work now. Overall moving is down quite a bit from pre-pandemic levels.

When I lived in St. Pete the rich New Yorkers used to just come down to their second homes during winter months. Then they would leave in the summer. Those were some of the most unlikeable people in the country. Second only to Californians and some annoying folks from Colorado.

NY hasn’t turned to sh#t. I’m going to Manhattan next month, gonna catch some Broadway shows, visit the Museum of Modern Art, eat some mutton at Keen’s Steakhouse (I saw it on Billions). I can’t do any of that stuff in Miami.

Another man got pushed onto the subway tracks last night . He’s dead. Perp was a mentally ill  predicate felon.  And a 15 year old kid was shot dead outside of the police athletic league rec center in the Bronx last night.  Enjoy your mutton.

theres never a deep bench imo.  all politicians have a limited shelf life because the political landscape under their feet shifts and as they are forced to take concrete political positions, they shed fans until they are marginalized. theres almost never a second act in politics.

now, what a political party may do is have internal factions adopting opposite sides of an argument, and then whichever side becomes popular, that faction produces a nominee.  for example, Biden is pro-war in Ukraine, but AOC voted against more war funding.  so if the Ukraine War grows deeply unpopular, they have an option to offer AOC in 2024.

Yeah I mentioned this in the Trump vs Desantis thread.  Should be interesting because they were both in favor of them earlier, although actually I’m not aware of Trump saying anything truly negative about them so he could just be trying to call Desantis out on his flip flopping as he has trended a bit towards being against the vaccine recently.

But most centrists who they will need to win the election know that overall the vaccines have been a success, so seems like a weird battle, even though speaking out against the vax might help them win the primary due to the number of idiots that believe it’s killing thousands of people.
