Take on me.....Fock off if you don't like it...

Recommended Posts

Crazy you posted this and me and the GF was listening to Amazon music. Original came on and was telling her acoustic is better. So play the acoustic and she agreed was just a hour or go.

'Take on Me' is a great song regardless. As for 'Unplugged, everything 'unplugged' suffers a huge quality dropoff from the plugged version. I'll never know how/why that trend got started and caught on. I appreciate the different sound as a change of pace, for artistic reasons, it also seems more personal, but this is much better in the original version.

I like acoustic versions of things.

Hell, Nirvana MTV unplugged is way way better than their studio work.

I love the Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds live unplugged albums. Listen to them all the time.

I’m with TBBOM.  To be more general, I like different remakes/takes of songs.  I enjoy Disturbed’s Sounds of Silence for instance.

Back to the OP, I loved that version and hadn’t really thought about the vocal range needed to sing it until I watched that.  Quite impressive.

Speaking of great vocal ranges, here is Jared Leto from back in his 30 Seconds to Mars days with The Kill (Bury Me) acoustic.

I listen to Pardon My Take podcast pretty religiously. They have a different version of that song at the end of every show. Love it.

I really have to credit you, I wasn’t expecting to like these but I clicked on them anyway. I wasn’t very far into the first song before I realized I was wrong and pleasantly surprised. Then the second one turned out to be just as good as the first. These are excellent covers, you sure know how to pick them.

Do these bands have other 80s covers that you’d recommend, or better, new original songs with an 80s sound?

A lot of covers of Roxette songs popped up in the last year when Fredriksson died.  I did see a couple of videos just last night with Per Gessel (the guy in the band), that were pretty good.  Short clips, about 5 or 6 minutes about It Must Have Been Love (which was originally written as a Christmas song), and The Look.

The way it started, I thought this was going to suck... then I heard the brass and thought it might be really good... then they started singing.  Not my bag.  I didn't make it through 2 lines.  :dunno:

I like the brass too, the vocals on the Spotify version are better than this one, but probably not enough to sway you.  Another ska cover I like is the Save Ferris cover of Come on Eileen.

ETA video...and correct band name
