I feel like the band America should have been much better.

Recommended Posts

To use the name America, they should have been much better. They should be expunged from the records.

Which band is justified to use the name "merica?

The Eagles?
Aerosmiff?
Van Halen?

Thanks for letting us know how you feel!

A bunch of excellent songs. "Sister Golden Hair" is my fav.

America band members used to live up in the Ortega Mountains, between San Juan Capistrano and Lake Elsinore. They would come into the music store I managed and look through the LP to see if we had their record in stock (we did). They also bought guitar accessories. I told them I was giving them the pro discount, and they said thanks.

Not saying they weren't good. They were not Africa, you know what I mean?

Their name comes from the fact that they were a bunch of Ex-Pat American kids living in England.  I'm ok with their band name choice.

As much as I love Van Halen, I think they have to be disqualified since half the bad was born in the Netherlands.

Dire Straits

Coolest band that ever was.

Well. It is 2022. We could outsource the name America to a British band without batting an eye.

Had to look them up, I recognized 2 songs... A Horse with No Name and You Can Do Magic.  I re-listened to both and they both suck.  Gotta say, I think you're right.

Oh hell, I go back and listen to any Eagles songs and Aerosmith and Van Halen and they suck too.

Ventura Highway?

That's it. I started to look up the lyrics, and the tune and words hit my pea brain before I got that far.

I had a blonde hamster when I was a kid. Named her Sister Golden Hair.

My mom's cat ate her. :(

Ventura Highway (personal favorite)

A Horse With No Name

Tin Man

they had some good songs back in the day.

One summer I saw America and Three Dog Night in Winnipeg. Outdoor concert. Was pretty cool.

Saw that show here at the Audubon Zoo. Fun show listening to the lions and elephants singing in the background.

Kansas played in my hometown last Friday.   This wayward son carried on and missed it.

Was never an Aerosmith fan. I'll take America over them all day.

I don’t think I’ve ever once heard them.

Is that something only old geezers would’ve listened to?

I love America.......but yeah they could have been better, not sure when Dan Peek left the band, but they were better with 3 than 2 imo.

Their Greatest Hits album is very nice.

* Fun Fact ~ Phil Hartman of SNL painted the album cover

** Fun Fact #2 ~ Steve Martin once said on a late night TV show ( probably Carson ) that he decide to give up covering other peoples songs while singing "for there ain't no one for to give ya no pain" from "Horse With No Name"
