Also, last night I watched Big Trouble in Little Chinatown, but I don't think it has much relevance in this thread.

I'm not sure I've ever seen that, but I've wanted to.  Maybe I'll put that on my list of movies to watch when my wife is out banging the rest of you geeks.

Very John Carpenter film.  Bad ratings when it came out, now critics love it and it's a cult classic. Me and another cinephobe were discussing Carpenter this week and came to the conclusion the was the King of B movies.  If you like They Live, or The Escape from (NY or LA) movies he directed, this should be right up your alley, little less dark, more humor.

This is ridiculous. We should all have the right to murder pregnant women. Or if we think they are pregnant. Or if they are just feeling bloated that day. Or if they are women. Or if somebody has long hair. Any hair.

Rights.

I'm not as radical. But I get it. My thoughts are, kill your child, and you die too. It would be a quick method of capital punishment.

Who the fock on this site wished they were aborted? :dunno:

And people care why? The "families" will suffer.

Hollywood reacts to Roe v. Wade being overturned: 'Absolutely terrified'

Banks wrote, "This is devastating news for families — Men and women — who believe the government should not decide when and with whom they become parents. This is not the end of this fight for human rights."

She added, "Everybody gets a gun but nobody gets bodily autonomy. America."

The decision effectively ended recognition of a constitutional right to abortion and gives individual states the power to allow, limit or ban the practice altogether.

Why do those for abortion think the pregnant woman should get to make that decision?

At what point is it a baby?  What about when it's just a clump of cells?

I would say when it can survive without being inside the mother.  Which seems to be somewhere around 20-24 weeks

Women should have to install an app on their phones that prove that they haven't had an abortion. If they had one, they get a red X on the app, and that will prevent them from going shopping, going to restaurants, concerts, or holding a job.

And....

That's contraception, gay sex, and gay marriage.  Personally, I hope the state where he lives decides to make interracial marriage illegal.

There is no state in the union that would ban interracial marriage, nor is there any state in the union that would ban contraception. There may yet still be states that would ban gay marriage although at this point that would require a helluva lot of temerity to pull off. A strong case could be made for interracial marriage, or even gay marriage, under the 14th amendment.

.Ideally you want laws implemented the right way -which is through elected officials in state legislatures - rather than fiat from SCOTUS weaving rights not mentioned in the Constitution out of whole cloth, as it would correct many abuses at the federal level of states' rights. Justice Thomas is indicating that he has no appetite for one-size-fits-all rulings from on high.

As  I see it, a lot of these rulings were necessary in the 50s and 60s to dismantle Jim Crow segregation in the south. In other words, the south needed and deserved a kick in the pants IMO. Now that the underlying principal is being used to cram down other federal mandates on states in areas unrelated to equal protection under the law, the court is going to take a harsher look at things. And this is a great development, as it facilitates the great sorting I think the country needs to go forward. If people in a blue state want to live this way, while people in a red state this way, that's fine and acceptable.

A lot of the hot button culture war issues that we're dealing with stems from SCOTUS overreach. think of Drag Queen Story hour from the other thread. If these issues are returned to states and localities to decide, the problems go away, settling differently in different communities.

Almost surely true, unlike the Wisconsin Christmas parade. The point still holds though.

They looked to be blocking traffic on purpose. Drive slowly through them, giving them every chance to move over, and if they don't want  to get out of the way, that's on them. They weren't simply "crossing a walkway".

Yep. The text in that tweet is very misleading. I was expecting to see something completely different in the video. Not surprising since it was posted by one of the protesters.

I think what the pro-choice movement has been very effective at is ending the discussion on when life begins.  When not forced to admit that elective abortion ends life, they have a very easy “My body, my choice” argument to lean on.

"Pro-choice" is an interesting term they embrace. They believe that women should have the right to CHOOSE. And yet, their hate groups have attacked 40+ pregnancy centers and churches because there are some women who CHOOSE to have their babies.

"Pro-choice" to them only means choice as long as they can kill their kids. Then it's ok for others to have a kid.

Fact check:

Looked like at the end of the video the traffic was getting backed up. And there was a stop light that I'm sure they were not paying attention too otherwise most likely that truck would not have gone through it. Also, people who are blocking traffic on purpose and don't want to get out of the way usually do exactly what a couple of them were doing and deliberately backpedaling while standing right in front of the car, instead of trying to go get out of the way.

Conclusion: ashleyvarnorny is a focking liar.

And while they protest in the intersection, not only do others actually have places to be, the gas they paid over $5 a gallon for is burning up. Fock the planet when it comes to killing babies I guess? They got their priorities.

I could not care less about abortion compared to issues that affect us day to day.  I am afraid this will affect the midterms.  So far the left has had nothing to energize them.  This may be what they need to distract people from everything that Biden has done.  Many women in the middle that voted for Biden because they hated Trump were coming around to how bad things were and leaning R.  Forget them now.  Let them keep the House and give them another Senate seat and they can kill the filibuster, pack the court and legislate just about anything they want.  Bad timing IMO.

Bill, this is much ado about nothing, IMO. We will finally see who really cares about abortion and judging from what I see, it's darn few, who already vote and this won't change anything.

FYI it's no secret that your home state is the barometer for America right now. Whatever Georgia does is what America will do.

This is how I feel.  Midterms were set to be a slaughtering.  They may still be.  But you have now opened the door.   People get distracted very easily.

I myself don't give much care about abortion.    Make a sensible cut off point and let them have it.  I don't want weird late term abortions but other than that let them have at it.

I’m with Bill. The liberals were dead in the water and this just gave them life back. Voters aren’t smart enough to realize it isn’t a full ban on abortion, but now a state decision. The democrats are doing a good job screaming that that this eliminates all opportunities to kill babies. Really bad timing.

Bad timing but what can you do? The supreme court did the right thing. Leave it up to the states. This is a landmark decision not only because it is abortion related, but because it takes one more thing out of the hands of the federal government which is what the whole intention of this country is founded on.  States rights. Smaller federal government.

One thing to note, abortion affects a small percentage of the population, whereas the liberal destruction of our economy along with gas prices and the border crisis and the constant spending by biden, along with a crashing market and people watching their 401k accounts going backwards and their stocks dropping will keep on going into November. That is what affects 100% of Americans.

Nobody out there protesting this decision is very intelligent at all and they are all dedicated liberal democrat voters anyway. I don't doubt it will affect some races in black areas of the country, but hell, the right thing was done. Hopefully in 4 months from now, this is old news. Although now it's a new debate topic at the state level. Sad it's come to this. Making everything political. I guess it's mostly liberals who don't know what the constitution is all about.  :(

Are you pro abortion peenie? As for myself, I can't reconcile my thoughts on it. I don't want poor stupid people raising kids, yet I think it's fundamentally wrong to kill a kid.

I have to admit, this is one topic I don't know what opinion to have on it in our current day society. I agree with the supreme court decision, but that is because I don't think the federal government needs to be involved here. Other than that, I think abortion is more of a convenience for stupid people. In cases of rape, fock ya, I'm all for it. And I realize that is contradictory in a way. I currently have not resolved an opinion on the topic in my mind at this point. What is your take?
