You realize state colleges are not individuals.  They are state institutions.  So states are censoring themselves, which they have every right to and arguably even a duty to do so.  They are not censoring citizens.   State and federal employees do not have free speech while they are employed,

Such a dumbass.  You would not know a contradiction if it hit you in the butt.  There is nothing contradictory stated.  They are state institutions and they have systematically hire leftist loons like yourself and purged all logical thinkers out.  Explain the contradiction.   Actually don't, I don't care to waste my time talking to lying idiots.

The problem is that you think everyone that isn't in ideological lockstep with you is a lying idiot. That means about 98% of the human population, as your opinions are radical righty fringe lunacy. People like you are the reason that liberal idiots go on tirades about all conservatives being racist morons. You're just propogating the hate you claim is wrongly directed at you.

You said they have a right to censor themselves, but apparently that doesn’t apply to supposedly “purging conservative thoughts.”  Does seem a bit contradictory

You really don't see how they are completely different and not even remotely the same???  In one I say it is OK to censor themselves, in that it is the state and its institution deciding on what is going to be taught at their institution.  In the second they are refusing to hire people based on their viewpoint.   That is bigotted discrimination and in this country we find that practice disgusting.  Unless you are a bigoted leftist, and then you embrace it.

I don't know if you are a lying idiot.  I think you are just in denial and have been mislead by sources you trust into following and believing in an agenda which is completely bigoted and evil.

So if a bunch of right-wingers want to teach future educators that the civil war was mainly about state rights and not about slavery, you would think it would be bad to prevent that?  They are stopping political activists from teaching misinformation to future educators.   Nobody but lying extremist spread the false notion that slavery was the primary driver of the American Revolution.

New students need to be “mission-aligned” to the state-sponsored college in order to attend? Now THAT is indoctrination.

I mentioned it in prior threads: Chris Rufo is a whack-job, and it’s quite dangerous that he’s being given this position of power.

Classic misdirection. Pornographic books were never allowed. If they were found, they should be removed. No new laws were needed. The laws are being used to remove books about penguins finding an orphan egg and raising the baby. And the stories of black historical figures. Basically, anything DeSantis wants to block. It’s government censorship.

It’s pretty pathetic that many cannot see that things like this are simply a pretext for the Florida government to censor its people.

That's a good point above - there are already rules in place for graphic content like that, I'd assume.   80% of the examples usually point to Gender Queer - get it out of the library.   I and I'd hope any rational person agrees with that.   Seems like most of the examples I see are graphic novels - I'd guess that's where most of the issues lie for obvious reasons.

But laugh about the hysteria or bristle about overreach and around here that means you support Gender Queer being taught to children.

The left has been linking young children to pornographic sites for years.  6-year olds directed to s site called Go Ask Alice which discussed topics such as beastiality and proper techniques for rimming.  Sick f-ing bastards.

I had to see for myself - that site and it's info is F-d.   We can at least agree on that and that in no way should students be directed to that as a resource.

Yep.  100%.

Step 1: Deny that problem X you tried to get away with even exists

Step 2: When shown that X does, indeed, exist then declare that it's not happening very much or it's "anectodotal" evidence

Step 3: When shown that X is happening a lot and it's not anecdotal then declare that it's being overblown

Step 4: When shown that it's not overblown, declare opponents as some kind of "ist" or "ism".

Sure. And they’ll always find extreme examples to throw at you. But now they want to ban Jodi Picoult. And Toni Morrison:

You equate real and gross violations of free speech of adults as is being routinely done by the left with proper roles of government in educating children which includes filtering the the types of material available to children.   You really have zero concept of what the first Amendment is supposed to protect.

The real question has nothing to do with academic freedom as that is a 100 percent bullcrap arguement.  Every public school teacher must teach a ciriculum dictated by the school and state guidelines.  The only question is,  who gets to decide and dictate those guidelines.?

A.  Anti-american unelected teacher unions who promote a far-left agenda with radical identity politics promoting such bigotted polices outlined by CRT and preverted gender ideology who will only operate in secrecy.

B.  An open and transparent process governed by elected officials who are answerable to the loving parents of the children whom are being taught and paid the taxes which constructed the schools and pay the teachers salaries.

I know, this is a tough one.

And the extreme examples are met with extreme reactions.  Those extreme examples have also helped me understand their perspective a little.

IMO there are two extremes going on.  While I don't agree with what they believe the reasons and motivations are for these things - seeing examples like Gender Queer or that site being linked in resource materials is eye opening as to what has gone unnoticed in the schools.   I am not OK with those examples.

The extreme on the other end is now the reaction to this are the books being removed like Morrison and Picoult from schools.   I am not OK with that.

To me the answer is to just remove the clear cut examples like above, and not push through legislature that is fuzzy and removes stuff like the 2nd example.

So let me get this straight. If I live in Florida and I order a banned book off Amazon, they will refuse to deliver it to me?

No, dummy - they will still deliver you the copy of Gender Queer you ordered. You don't have to worry.

I am just curious - how much do you read?  How much do you know about the other 100s of books they are removed from shelves (I won't bother using "banned" around here any more since you guys like to go the route like above)?  I get the feeling that many of you are OK with removing 100s of books to make sure that there isn't even a chance that something like Gender Queer is on a library shelf.   If so, I disagree with that strongly - especially when this is framed as getting "porn" out of the schools but then you see a large number of race related books and LGTBQ books that have no sexuality in them on the lists.

I agree with several of the extreme examples, but also think DeSantis is going about it the wrong way and really disagree with this way of addressing the issue.

So no books were banned and if a parent wants to buy one for their kid they can? What about the books about teaching young African Americans to hate whitey? Can they still buy those?

Yes, if the parents have the means and ability to buy these books, they can.

Actually I don’t think they can because I strongly doubt the existence of a book which instructs African American children to hate white people.

I've seen Kendi's books on lists, and kids versions of those.   I've seen stuff like Stamped, Ghost boys, Beloved, things like that.

But this goes back to my posts about the purposeful goal of getting all race stuff under CRT.  Because now the shorthand is all these books point to "teaching" CRT = teaching us to hate whitey = should be removed from the shelves.

The net keeps getting bigger and bigger, but when you scan the lists of challenged books, it damn near all circles around LGBTQ and race topics.

HERE is an example of one of the county's lists.    HERE is a list of 176 that were taken off the shelves for review and are being looked at.

Tim, I don't bother with the dumb debates about if that is or isn't what the books are doing.    I've read enough of their posts to understand the types of books they are talking about.

My overall point is this is just not about removing porn from libraries, as I have seen this framed.   There is more going on, as I doubt there is much porn in the racial books or those 100s of kids books in the second list.
