In any case, Kaepernick losing his job was fine. His inability to be signed by any other team over the next several years was NOT fine. He was clearly blackballed by the league, pun definitely intended.

This is correct. But it’s also a business that has, and it some ways still does, treat blacks with institutionalized racism.

All goes back to skill level.  The more skilled a player is the longer leash they get.  Some players like AB, and Josh Gordon to name a couple will get many chances as their skill level outweighed their problems so teams were willing to take a chance.  Mediocre players usually don`t get many chances.

If the NFL were 100% white players would still be treated the same way.  Read Meat on the Hoof about Texas Football in the 60s when the roster was almost all white.  It was basically exactly how the NFL was in the early days.  

Now, I agree at one time black QBs were not given the same chance, but at the same time there were not many black QBs even in college.  As more blacks are starting in college at QB the same with the NFL.

Why was Lamar Jackson drafted so low compared to mediocre white quarterbacks? Why was Patrick Mahomes drafted much later than Mitch Trubisky? The answer is in the scouting reports- they were thought to be “runner” or “athlete” quarterbacks- the inference, unsaid but heavily implied, is that they lack the mental ability.

The superintendent wasn’t at the school that day, and is no doubt expressing the “official” position of the district. She also released other statements saying they will meet with students to discuss the culture at the school? Seems like she isn’t 100% sure. There will be more to this story.

Agreed.  I was mostly saying that it isn't a done deal that they were told they couldn't talk about slavery, which seems somewhat unlikely.  Most likely it is somewhere in the middle.

Comments like this and about the white privilege is where you lose me, tim.  We desperately need to move away from this notion that groups of people are the same or have the same experiences.  I would submit that overall, other things are way more important to outcome than skin color - poverty level being the biggest one.   We can't have an honest conversation if we can't also admit that there are certain times when being black would be beneficial in 2023 - examples of hiring and college admissions are brought up where being a minority might give you a leg up as companies are looking to diversity.  

Maybe this is a better way of framing it:  do you think a black kid born in 2023 in a poor neighbor has it that much worse (you posting they have to hustle 2x) than a poor white kid born in a similar situation elsewhere?  If so, why?

To answer your question: they do not have it worse starting out. But the white kid has an easier time getting out of that situation. For the black kid to advance economically at the same level as the white kid, the black kid has to work much harder. Yes I absolutely believe that. Racial perceptions play a huge factor in our society, and for black people it’s the dominant factor.
