TheNewGirl 1,357 Posted June 23, 2023 On the Today show this AM, I noticed that the Coast Guard Admiral they were interviewing made the statement of finding "carnage" instead of "rescue." He corrected himself VERY quickly. When I saw that this morning, I knew that they knew something. Even as a slip while being interviewed, "carnage" isn't really a word that you'd misspeak at that level. I think this is the video from this AM with Savannah and Hoda https://www.today.com/video/coast-guard-official-on-latest-efforts-to-locate-missing-titanic-sub-184054341931

GobbleDog 984 Posted June 23, 2023 "The Navy says they heard something that might have been an implosion. They aren't 100% certain it was an implosion or that it was actually the missing sub. But that's good enough for us... we're not even going to bother searching."

He corrected himself VERY quickly. When I saw that this morning, I knew that they knew something. Even as a slip while being interviewed, "carnage" isn't really a word that you'd misspeak at that level. This is a "red ball" in the national daily media cycle. The entire military, if you break it down into branches and into specific departments, units and specialties, are all fighting to retain their existing budget, and then again to expand it. A worldwide situation like this creates an opportunity to test out your equipment, personnel and strategies. That has actual and practical value for the Navy. It's also a way to justify your budget on a large scale. The odds of survival were essentially zero. The entire American military command apparatus knew that already. There is also the backdoor issue that billionaires are typically large scale political donors and that buys politicians, which buys influence and pressure on the military to act on something like this. In effect, the Navy was going through the motions. Much of what the entire world knows about hypothermia, and how to treat it, comes from WW2. Unfortunately large scale experiments were done on prisoners of war. Scientists, post war, didn't just dismiss the research and data because it was gotten by horrific acts against all humanity. Explorers take risks and die, that's how it works. That's how it has always worked. Innovators take risks and die. That's how humanity as moved forward. You can find photos all over during Operation Enduring Freedom where US and NATO soldiers would cut socks, and use them to slip over their goggles when not in use. Because most of the time, the goggles would rest on the brow of a helmet. The "reflective" properties of those goggles at distance, especially in the bright daylight, would indicate to enemy snipers to see the telltale indictors, aim just a little lower, then shoot someone in the head at distance. In order for the miltary to rethink something like that, how equipment is made and deployed, and how soldiers adapted, only happened because someone needed to die first. Tragic, but it's how it works. Many of the things you use today, for daily life, and likely take for granted, if you dig far back enough, many people likely had to die in it's development and innovation. Most people here have flown on an airplane. Most people here don't think about the countless number of people throughout history who paid in blood, and lost their lives, to inch forward so human flight could be possible. I suppose the sobering reality is "effort" is often built upon your social status. If Tom Brady's kid needed a critical organ transplant to survive, then do you think that kid is waiting in line like everyone else? ( Wealthy people have "non traditional options" in cases like that) But if it was just some working class janitor who cleaned toilets at Foxboro, do you think his family can do workarounds like Brady would and could? What's good for everyday working class people can only happen as a coincidence in if it's good for the "wealthy elite" I feel badly for the 19 year old. The rest knew the score, the dice rolled the wrong way for them this time, and that's it. People die. Americans have an aversion to understanding how cheap life really is for most people across the world and across history.

Engorgeous George 2,149 Posted June 23, 2023 I find the narrative that the occupants were explorers laughable. They were dilettante tourists flaunting their money. They were no more explorers than I am at a strip club. They paid the fee, had a seat, and knew what it was they were about to see and their take away after was going to have no scientific or social value. 1

The explorers already died to get the data that should've been used to create the vessel. The CEO chose to ignore that and short circuit safety measures that people with all that data urged him to do.
