At least the CEO died too

I don't know the guy.  I don't wish ill will on him.  The only silver lining is this horrible design is not likely to ever be used again.

Considering everything bad is a “gate” since watergate , I would have opted for a different t name than Oceangate.

On the Today show this AM, I noticed that the Coast Guard Admiral they were interviewing made the statement of finding "carnage" instead of "rescue." He corrected himself VERY quickly.

When I saw that this morning, I knew that they knew something. Even as a slip while being interviewed, "carnage" isn't really a word that you'd misspeak at that level.

I think this is the video from this AM with Savannah and Hoda https://www.today.com/video/coast-guard-official-on-latest-efforts-to-locate-missing-titanic-sub-184054341931

Not to sound too heartless, but I can't help but keep thinking "play stupid games, win stupid prizes."

Any word yet from the lunatic fringe as to whether the sub's occupants were vaccinated, and what part that might have played in their deaths?

No vaxxes were necessary for the submarine, since the occupants were all sitting down. It's science.

I don't understand why they're giving up the search.  It's my hope that after the implosion, the occupants were able to swim to safety.  :dunno:

The optics are definitely not ideal, to put it mildly.

"The Navy says they heard something that might have been an implosion.  They aren't 100% certain it was an implosion or that it was actually the missing sub.  But that's good enough for us... we're not even going to bother searching."

Physics With news of the Titan experiencing a “catastrophic implosion”, what exactly does this mean?

Simple.  Pressure busts pipes, man.  Pressure busts pipes.

This is a "red ball" in the national daily media cycle.

The entire military, if you break it down into branches and into specific departments, units and specialties, are all fighting to retain their existing budget, and then again to expand it.

A worldwide situation like this creates an opportunity to test out your equipment, personnel and strategies. That has actual and practical value for the Navy. It's also a way to justify your budget on a large scale.

The odds of survival were essentially zero. The entire American military command apparatus knew that already.  There is also the backdoor issue that billionaires are typically large scale political donors and that buys politicians, which buys influence and pressure on the military to act on something like this.

In effect, the Navy was going through the motions.

Much of what the entire world knows about hypothermia, and how to treat it, comes from WW2. Unfortunately large scale experiments were done on prisoners of war. Scientists, post war, didn't just dismiss the research and data because it was gotten by horrific acts against all humanity.

Explorers take risks and die, that's how it works. That's how it has always worked. Innovators take risks and die. That's how humanity as moved forward. You can find photos all over during Operation Enduring Freedom where US and NATO soldiers would cut socks, and use them to slip over their goggles when not in use. Because most of the time, the goggles would rest on the brow of a helmet. The "reflective" properties of those goggles at distance, especially in the bright daylight, would indicate to enemy snipers to see the telltale indictors, aim just a little lower, then shoot someone in the head at distance. In order for the miltary to rethink something like that, how equipment is made and deployed, and how soldiers adapted, only happened because someone needed to die first. Tragic, but it's how it works.

Many of the things you use today, for daily life, and likely take for granted, if you dig far back enough, many people likely had to die in it's development and innovation. Most people here have flown on an airplane. Most people here don't think about the countless number of people throughout history who paid in blood, and lost their lives, to inch forward so human flight could be possible.

I suppose the sobering reality is "effort" is often built upon your social status. If Tom Brady's kid needed a critical organ transplant to survive, then do you think that kid is waiting in line like everyone else? ( Wealthy people have "non traditional options" in cases like that) But if it was just some working class janitor who cleaned toilets at Foxboro, do you think his family can do workarounds like Brady would and could?

What's good for everyday working class people can only happen as a coincidence in if it's good for the "wealthy elite"

I feel badly for the 19 year old. The rest knew the score, the dice rolled the wrong way for them this time, and that's it. People die. Americans have an aversion to understanding how cheap life really is for most people across the world and across history.

I'm thinking that before the submersible imploded, they had all probably died of COVID anyway.

It just occurred to me that this would be an excellent way to fake your own death.

Presumably you go in a sub in a part of the ocean so deep almost no one can even look for your craft if you ended up losing power and sinking to the bottom.

I find the narrative that the occupants were explorers laughable.  They were dilettante tourists flaunting their money.  They were no more explorers than I am at a strip club.  They paid the fee, had a seat, and knew what it was they were about to see and their take away after was going to have no scientific or social value.

Preach.  The explorers already died to get the data that should've been used to create the vessel.  The CEO chose to ignore that and short circuit safety measures that people with all that data urged him to do.

let’s give the poor families false hope and all the wasted money coordinating ships to search

They were going to do a search anyway, so they can find the wreckage and determine what caused the accident in the first place...  But the false hope, if true, was not a good idea...

the wreckage is planted evidence, to aleviate public fear.  the crew died from other means.  they dont want america mulling over this too long.

This is similar to the plot of Jurassic Park III.  The guy and his son in the hang-glider-parachute-thing pulled behind a boat that crashed.

I heard one of the people on the sub had Hillary's missing emails and Hillary arranged for a little accident.

What kind of conspiracy theory is being covered up here, then? I really want to know.

This was all just a distraction from Hunter Biden's laptop, clearly.

I just saw one of the supposed "victims" at Wawa an hour ago.

I don't think that they would have died miserably from suffocation; clawing at their throats or whatever we see in movies. If it's lack of O2 or too much CO2, you pass out first. Then heart stops.

Actually they were turned into paste almost instantly.

Yes, I know...I was mainly referring to taco breath's fear that they died miserably.

I believe they imploded Sunday when they lost contact. Reading about all of this, it would have happened in a nanosecond and they never would have realized it.
