Recommended Posts

Oh good, I was waiting for the official thread to discuss this, because the other threads weren't doing a good enough job.

Alright let's go, this official now.

More laughs in other threads. This is a serious discussion.

I'm dead serious.  I couldn't be more serious.

OK I'll start.

Zach Wilson is the starter.

In season QB trades are rare. The most likely outcome is to stick with Zach Wilson.

They have a good team and good D, Maybe not Ravens 2000 D that can win a SB on it alone. Also the likes of winning a SB with a Trent Dilfer type QB doesn't fit the modern NFL.

So what are their realistic options besides living and dying with Wilson ? I can't believe they are okay with doing that.

Trade for someone like Kyle Murray ? Can they afford that type of trade ?

I thought this is the official discussion where we discuss realistic outcomes.

Arizona would take a huge cap hit to trade Murray, something like 100 million I believe.

The realistic scenario is Zach Wilson.

Teams don't want to give up good backup qb's because if the starter gets hurt then you are screwed.

Joe Namath

Came here to post this. Bring out of retirement if they can sober him up and then not do panty hose commercials. Fur coats are fine.

No more Suzy Kolber either.

Why wouldn't they just stick with the QB they drafted and was the starter before?  Sign some veteran as the back up then.

I’m assuming the recently retired names I’m seeing are all uninterested and/or totally washed: Brady, Rivers, Ryan etc.

My guess is they bring Flacco back as a backup to Wilson until he inevitably flames out. But I’d try to deal for Brissett or Heineke.

I would expect them to bring in a free agent in the short term, with Zach as the starter. Unfortunately they play Dallas this week and the game plan will be run, run, run and hope the defense creates some turnovers.

Realistically, they are going to need to let him throw it a bit more, even if it means making mistakes, to know if he has learned anything thus far under Rodgers. If they are completely afraid to let him succeed or fail with his arm, then he has already failed because his confidence will be shot, knowing the entire organization is sick over the situation and they won't even let him truly give it a go. Mark Sanchez was no great passer but they let him do just enough....

If they let him air it out and it goes terribly wrong, then you explore trading for a veteran if the price is right. No veteran is going to give you SB aspirations.... unless the Rams are looking to move on from Stafford and it doesn't cost a ton.

If no realistic veteran is going to give you SB aspirations, then what's the point?

That’s the official plan.

The best move is to trade a conditional pick to Tampa for Mayfield.  Start with a 4th, that becomes a 3rd if they make the playoffs as a WC, a 2nd if they win the division, a 1st if they make it to the Super Bowl.  The Jets have $10M in available cap space and Mayfield comes with only a $1.25M cap hit.  I think in a few weeks, say after Week 4, when Tampa is 1-3 and the Jets are 1-3, this deal gets done.

I think they should toss Rodgers corpse on the field so that he can get 65% of the snaps and the Packers get that conditional draft pick upgraded to a #1

They Probably could get Trubisky or Rudolph with in reason from Pitt, I'd go with Rudolph if I was them and as a Steeler fan think he is the better of the two.

You think Rudolph is better than Trubisky? :shocking:

Yes but a very thin line, He throws a better deep ball.

I heard you like it deep.

Mayfield deal isn't happening.

Ryan Tannehill

Carson Wentz

Desperate GM's go with legacy for in-season patch overs. You want someone with history with your offensive staff and/or history with the GM himself.

because Saleh and Douglas might feel the need to save their jobs. Granted, they might now have a built in excuse for Woody.... but aside from a magical 2022 draft, Douglas has not impressed me at all. DJ Reed was a good signing.

I’d say Tannehill too but they just spent up on Hopkins and Henry is still there.
