For me it has to be constant fouls called when someone drives to the basket, If they miss the shot you can almost guarantee the refs will call a foul. If I was a coach I would have my players practicing foul shots a hour every practice an then game time attack the inside paint relentless.

- super teams

- no defense

- just jacking up 3s all the time

- no more rivalries 

 

I would put the year of death around the 2008-2011 timeframe. Really about the time lebron took his talents to south beach to team up with Wade and Bosh.

That predated the no defense and jacking up 3s all the time, and it was the nail in the coffin for historic rivalries.

So I guess the advent of super teams is my answer?

Ironically, when ESPN and ABC took over from NBC and TBS in 2002-2003. It has never recovered.

Lakers (Lebron, Anthony Davis) down 3-1 to the Denver Nuggets.

To much game time. The last three minutes of the game is all that matters in a nba game, but that’s also ruin by all the stoppage of play because of fouls.

Travelling and double dribbles are almost never called anymore... never against the better players.  Flopping, ticky tack fouls where a guy's finger nail brushes against the shooters forearm... AFTER he shot the ball, the shooter falling off to the side on a crappy shot and getting a foul call.  So much crap about the NBA, makes it unwatchable.

Then once I stopped watching regular season, I didn't really have motivation to start watching the playoffs.

So I hardly ever watch any regular season but once playoffs roll around and the series start tightening up it’s very watchable. Storyline develop quickly, the stars start rising to the top (that dude in Minneapolis is sick), and best teams start doing their thing.
