A source tells PFT that Adrian Peterson will plead no contest to one count of misdemeanor reckless assault.

If the agreement between Peterson and the prosecutors is accepted by the judge, the case will be resolved. Note that the plea will not include reference to family violence or violence against a minor. He will pay a $2,000 fine, be placed on probation and perform 80 hours of community service. Now the question becomes how the NFL and the Vikings will respond. Peterson has been on a paid suspension since Week 1, missing eight games. No one seems to know if the league office will consider that "time served." If they do, it's possible he could be reinstated quickly. Peterson needs to be owned across the board right now just in case he suits up for the stretch run.

"If Adrian Peterson receives a plea deal and his felony child abuse charge is bargained down to a misdemeanor, the expectation of the NFL Players Association will be that the Minnesota Vikings star should be punished as would any other player determined to be guilty of a misdemeanor, league sources told ESPN.

Jeff Curry/USA TODAY Sports

The NFLPA will argue that if Adrian Peterson reaches a plea deal in his child abuse case, he should be punished just like any other player found guilty of a misdemeanor, according to sources.

Peterson has missed eight games but been paid his full salary of nearly $5.3 million in his absence. The union will likely argue that the running back should be reinstated and perhaps forced to pay a substantial fine -- surrendering part of the income he's been receiving.

Peterson has been on the commissioner's exempt list, and only commissioner Roger Goodell can reinstate him, so he could be required to meet with Goodell.

Carolina Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy, who is facing a trial for a domestic violence charge, also was placed on the exempt list in September.

Both players agreed as part of a deal that they would be ineligible to play until their cases are adjudicated, but that they would receive full compensation until that time.

Once Goodell reinstates Peterson, presuming the commissioner eventually does so, the Vikings would either have to allow the running back to return to the team or be required to release him.

The Vikings' position on all of this remains a mystery. They have been silent since Peterson was put on the exempt list, so there is uncertainty as to whether the Vikings are willing to reinsert Peterson into their lineup.

Vikings coach Mike Zimmer was asked about Peterson on Monday as the team began its bye week, and he made it clear he judges Peterson based on his own personal interactions and considers him to be "top-notch, first-class.""

Do people think the backlash will not prohibit the Vikings from starting him? IMO still a lightning rod as the pictures WILL resurface.

Theres also the matter of it being old news. Strip it all down and hes just a guy spanking his kid. There was an excpected amount of fake outrage as usual but people have moved on. A public apology and a 10yd carry to start the game and AP is a national hero again. Im putting in a claim this week in all my leagues.

If the NFL applied their new rules to AP, looks like he would be able to suit up and the Vikes could beat out the public outcry (if any). Personally, I want him to play.

Policy applies to all incidents involving physical force, not just domestic violence

Six-game suspension for first offense (could be longer under certain circumstances)

Lifetime ban for second offense (can apply for reinstatement after one year)

Policy applies to all NFL personnel, not just players

Policy is not retroactive; everyone starts with clean slate

Those identified as "at risk" for committing offenses offered counseling; refusal could affect future discipline

Confidential counseling offered to all personnel and families

The thought is that he has to get some credit for "time served". He's missed 8 games, two more than required for the first time domestic violence penalty. Yes, he's been paid, but that part is easy to work out. He pays it back, or gets 1/4 pay for the remaining 8 games or gives up pay for 6 of them completely...whichever way they do it, it's just shuffling shells around to make the $$$ balance out. The bigger question is the backlash of him coming back, which i personally believe will be much less than anticipated. Bear in mind, this guy is a LEGEND in Minnesota. With a chance to watch the greatest RB their team has ever had play again, I think they welcome him back.

I think he could suit up next weekend (after their bye) and am working waivers accordingly. Just my $0.02.

I think the plea being a misdemeanor means the NFL can't stop him from coming back and playing, given he was already essentially suspended 8 games.

Weren't the Vikes in danger of losing their stadium sponser back when this happened. Who was that and did the sponsor remain once AP shut down?

Doesn't matter what he pleas to. NFL has a "personal conduct" policy, they can suspend whoever for whatever.See Rice, Ray

Technically, they don't have a sponsor for their new stadium yet (some assume it will be US Bank as their headquarters are in Mpls)

The big one that "suspended" their sponsorship was Radisson Hotels, who's logo was displayed in the background of press conferences.

Probably..........which is sad.

It's about a guy who severely beat his 4 year old son to the point where he will be scarred for life. But this being Week 10 and fantasy football, rabid fans only concerned with having a viable RB for their fantasy or Pro team.

Line from A Time to Kill : Now imagine the kid is white.

As pointed out today on ESPN, the NFL conduct policy is now in effect as he basically admits guilt by pleading no contest. I am curious as to what the NFL will put into play as there things like sponsors, activists groups who will most likely voice their opinion if he moves one step closer to the field.

The part that everyone is missing is Peterson is on paid leave. The Vikings never cut Peterson like the Ravens did to Rice. The Vikings are 4-5 (I know they have Green Bay and Detroit in the NFC North) and are 100X better with Peterson in their lineup and may actually think they would have a shot at the playoffs if they bring him back. As a Patterson owner (and a new Peterson owner picking him up Sunday when this information first broke) I would love to see the production like he had week 1!

Whether this is a coincidence or not.... Ray Rice's meeting with the league is also this week.

How much protest has there been against Ray McDonald playing since that first week or two? Now it looks like there won't even be charges brought. Granted, AD is a much bigger name, but the outcry was due to timing as much as anything else.

I don't know what the NFL will do, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Vikings start him after the bye. McKinnon (and, for that matter, Asiata) has done well enough in his place, but AD, especially a fresh AD, would alter the entire defensive game plans of teams. With the team only 2 games out of a wildcard spot (and 2.5 games out of the division lead), they're still very much in contention.

Problem with Ray McDonald comparison is that there isn't graphic pictures of his victim's skin laid open.

It's difficult to look beyond that if you actually saw the pictures. If you viewed those with the thought they were of a 4 year old child (and NOT a 16 year old that stole their parents vehicle) that had their flesh broken, then you can't want him on the field let alone loose in society.

Period.

Goodell and the NFL has shown they will do whatever they want with regards to discipline. First it is two games for domestic assault, then it is six games - but Ray Rice is at nine games and counting, with no end in sight.

At this point I think the NFL and the Goodell Kangaroo Kourt will not allow Peterson to play this year. Goodell will just make up some BS charge like he has done with Rice to keep Peterson on a indefinite suspension.

Face it, AP is coming back. I drafted him but had to drop him. Now somebody is gonna get blessed on the waiver wire.

Dude has fresh legs and will be a problem during the fantasy playoffs.
