I'm with nobody; NY pizza is the most overrated food evah. Oooh, super thin crust with almost nothing on it, it's all in the water$#@! No it's not, it sucks. Well, maybe doesn't suck, but don't act like it is better than other pizza. It is the Radiohead of food.

Agreed. I grew up with two styles:

1. Pizza Hut, particularly their pan pizza.

2. My cousin's take out pizza place, which was thin but not quite NY thin, and used white cheddar instead of mozzarella. I worked there on Wednesdays and made my own perfect pizza for dinner.

Id have Pizza Hut dead last. Papa johns a little better but not much. And dominos highest. When they redid their menu a few years back, it got a lot better.

 

Unfortunately Pizza Hut is the only chain we have here in my new city. We used to order papa johns at the last place, but there isnt one here. I refuse to pay Pizza Hut prices for their garbage.

 

Ive found a couple of good expat owned local places, but they are far away. One, NYPD Pizza, is especially good. Whenever I am in that part of town I hit them up.

Thats not true at all, in the big cities at least.

 

Here in shenzhen, I could show you three mom and pop expat run pizza places better than the chains. Im sure there are more, I just havent fully explored the city.

 

There are top notch Italian places. Good Mexican places. Good burger places.

 

And good Chinese food is very good. Sure, theres a lot of garbage too. But at least it costs next to nothing.

Had something called neapolitan pizza a long while back. I can't even describe it. It's sort of like somebody intended to try to make pizza but kept getting distracted. Freaking awful.

 

Still, the whole thing about New York Pizza is just played out and retarded these days. You can find good pizza in Gillette Wyoming and crap Pizza in the heart of Brooklyn. There are very few truly regional foods anymore.

Maybe its because I am in the Northeast, but NY style pizza is just pizza to me. Unless youre specifically ordering something like Sicilian or deep dish, you get your basic thin crust style. So its odd to hear people say NY style pizza is trash. What other kind of pizza are you eating?
