Todd Gurley takes a knee at the 6 yard line

Recommended Posts

His decision was to run the clock out and end the game. I doubt he knew the lines.

As a non-gambler, I was taken back by the unselfishness of him not scoring a TD, which would also have put the game away.

My boss just came into my office cursing up a storm as he had the Rams :D

Without looking at the article I think that kept the total from going over as well. Crazy.

I have him and am up by 50 but my opponent has Edelman, Gronk and Hogan going. Should be OK but would have loved the TD. I just hope the Bills donn't play like the Bills tonight. W/my luck Brady throws these guys 4 TDs.

No it wouldnt have. They still had to make the XP. He took that out of the cards.

This has nothing to do with him being classy or not. It was just a smart move. Gave the Rams a better chance to win the game.

This posted comment referenced in the article has got to be one the most ill-informed statements ever:

"I will never forgive Todd Gurley. Ever. He has made a mortal enemy for life. You have no respect for your fans if you pull that circus stunt. He quit plain and simple. That may be the worst play I’ve ever been a part of. Nobody does that. Nobody"

Makes me glad he lost his bet. And I wonder what makes him feel he was part of that play?

His decision there, gave Packers a 0% chance to win. He scores, it gives Packers a .5 or 1% chance to win.

Smart move. I told my kid "That's one step above the guy who knocks a ball down instead of intercepting when the opposing team throws deep on 4th down".

And like someone said...classy has nothing to do with it. Pure smarts.

As a Packer fan, i knew the game was over when he took a knee. Obviously, if he scores, it's what, 95% over--but their is still a chance for a miracle. Take a knee and that does it...smart play.

I guess nobody remembers when Brian Westbrook did this a few years back. Its genius

He got the same type of flack from the gambling nerds as well.

Willing to bet that was a little tongue in cheek. Lighten up Francis

Gurley obviously would rather win than pad his numbers...

I wonder if he could teach that to Matt Stafford.

Smart play. Playing to win a game is not the same as playing to win a bet.

Looking down the road, this could get interesting.

The NFL will likely take most of their cut of gambling revenues in the form of increased broadcast rights, but will we some day have in-stadium betting windows like they have at the race track?

Can you imagine the chaos if that scenario played out in Philly where half the fans had cash on the line?

I remember when McAfree did this one time. Instead of making a beeline for the End Zone, he made a big sweeping Ark asymtotic to the goal line. And then he took a knee. Just to run out the clock. Pretty classy move.

Can you imagine a player doing this in college? Especially the bigger programs? It would be a race to see whether the coach or the fans strung them up first.

First - Green Bay was trying to let him score once he got the first down. Guys went for the strip and only the strip.

Second - Arizona St was in a similar situation against USC this weekend and opened the door for USC to win. As the ASU guy was scoring to go up 10 I was thinking, "why isn't he going down?" I thought that was a standard play nowadays. FYI USC scores a TD, then had a decent chance for the onsides, but didn't convert.

I say yes and I think it will start once the Raiders are in Vegas.

Saturday I was watching ASU v USC; ASU was up 3 with about 1:30 to go and had the ball in USC territory. USC was out of timeouts. ASU QB (Manny Wilkins) kept the ball and broke away toward the end zone. My first thought was GOOOO DOOOWWWNNNNN!!!!!!! If he had, ASU takes 2 or 3 victory snaps and the game would be over. But he scored. USC went on to get a quick TD and next thing you know, we were looking at an onside kick. ASU recovered it and ended up winning, but that didn't need to happen.

Manny is considered a pretty smart and savvy guy, I'm kinda surprised he didn't recognize the situation. Heck, I'd need to see the replay but I wouldn't be surprised if USC let him score because it was their only chance.

i heard he did it protesting social injustice.

Next time, they should play the national anthem to prevent this.

Why would he build a big boat during the game?

It's nice to see a player with a head on his shoulders. More focused on team and winning - not just personal stats.

The gambling degenerate I talked to had the Rams. I said it was a smart play to win the game, and they think I'm against them and they're calling Gurley Girly and the N word, and think he did it because of the spread. I said so you think this multi-millionaire athlete knows some Vegas Casino owner that he just wanted to help?

LOL Too funny.

I heard Gurley had 20 bucks on the under.

isn't this at least the 2nd time he's done this? Seems like he did it last year as well.

Smart play, as well as selfless......though I'm sure there are some fantastic betting & Fantasy Football stories around it.
