There are other things that could be causing excess deaths besides Covid and Suicide.  HTH.

Sweet.  Like what?  Now we're getting somewhere.

I like where your head is at on that one because that works on two levels.  First it explains excess deaths, but it also gives us an avenue to blame murders on the lockdowns.  I like that a lot.  We just need some half-assed study now to back that up.

WTF are you talking about?  I'm simply pointing out there are other things contributing to any number of higher deaths this year than other years.  Significant increases in violent crime across the country is a significant one.  I don't care about half ass studies or anything like that.  And this surge in violence isn't lockdown related anyways.

I must be one of the only people that is truly independent because every side thinks I'm on the other side at all times.

I honestly don't care about COVID.  I care about the economy.  If that means people have to die so be it.  In fact, if I could have all of you die to open up the economy, I would do it.  Sh¡t, if I had that power, I'd probably have all you die anyway, so I guess in that way, I'm not on any of your sides.

Opioid deaths have increased this year vs prior years, reversing a downward trend.

Probably true, but looks like there were less than 20k homicides nationally in 2019.  Even if that increases by 50% (doubtful), that’s only another 10k.

Some guy called “the Ethical Skeptic” on Twitter has some decent arguments, some of it is over my head but from what I gather, the gist seems to be there were a lot of covid deaths, but he’s going with the argument that a lot of them either probably should have already died, or were going to die soon, and claims that there were a lot of deaths due to the lockdown, for example the other day he was talking about the increase in Alzheimer’s and dementia deaths.

However that goes back to a different discussion where I think people are blaming deaths on the lockdown when many probably would have happened with or without a lockdown (similar to how our economy was going to take a hit regardless of whether or not there was a lockdown).

But yet I also see a lot of people saying to “protect the vulnerable.”   I would think “protecting the elderly” would still result in additional deaths due to Alzheimer’s, dementia, isolation, etc.

BTW I didn’t say “all” the additional deaths were from covid, but I think I’m gonna stick with “the majority.”

Oh, FFS:

Trump officials passed when Pfizer offered US more vaccine doses this summer

The Trump administration declined additional doses of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine late this summer when the pharmaceutical company offered them to the U.S. government, a senior Trump administration official familiar with the matter confirmed to ABC News.

Pfizer may be unable to produce more of the vaccine for United States citizens until June 2021 because it has committed those doses to other countries.

Are they the only one that makes a vaccine? Simple question, should have been the first thing you thought of if not for the TDS that rages through you like syphilis.

Simple question. If they did and we can’t get it elsewhere, it’s a fock up. It’s called being reasonable. You should try it.

I’ve given up responding to him. He’s not worth the effort. When he’s not defending, deflecting, or denying, he’ll bring up something so far removed from the conversation at hand, it’s barely relevant.

Rusty nailed it with RP lite.

I said he may have focked up. Did you not read that part? Far removed? You don’t know that other drug manufacturers are also producing a vaccine? Too bad you gave up. I’d love to read a reply. Oh well.

I have heard people are having concerns that Big Pharma is getting exempted from covid vaccine liability in order to convince them to make these drugs.  It might be smart to delay orders until we know the side effects.  I can just imagine Trump placing a massive order and the drug ends up crippling or killing a slew of americans, and people like you would be first in line to blame Trump for rushing to place that massive order.

Liberals prove day in and day out that they don't have the capacity.for rational thought around anything, and also act as complete children when they don't get their way. Then, when they do get their way, they pretend all is great whilie they suffer the terrible consequences of their decisions, and tell others to just deal with it.

These are some of the most pathetic people in the history of this country. And they are loving being that way.

It's a shame they don't have any vision of what the future of this country will turn into under these extreme socialists they want in power. It's proof that they block out history when they plan for the future.

Hey, remember when this moron and his ilk said the exact same thing about what would happen if Obama won? Remember those bad old socialist days? Thank God they're nothing like today.

They were bad years indeed that had a very negative impact on this country. hussein created incredible division between races and whatever identities anyone at the time wanted to make up and call themselves.

It's a shame you can't even see the history over the hussein years. Sending pallets of cash to Iran, stoking war in the Middle East, putting troupes in harms way for no reason, sending uranium to Russia only to later vilify Russia in some fake scheme against Trump, illegal wiretapping etc.

You are a blind old man who can't see truth with your mind being all clouded in fantasy.

You cut this out of my comment when you replied to it. And your words prove I am right.

How many doses do we have coming?  How many are needed?  Did Pfizer offer these additional doses for free?

Pfizer’s vaccine approved by the FDA! It’s going to take a while to get everybody vaccinated, but this is great news. Too bad Trump had the chance to get 200 million doses and only bought 100 mil. That’s enough for 50 million people though, so it’s still good news overall.

They had to search for someone it might benefit.   Most people aren't scared of the sniffles.

Why is the media creating a frenzy over hospitalizations, despite the fact that the 2017-2018 flu season was hit with 810,000 hospitalizations, far more than Covid, and no one heard a peep about it. There were no lockdowns, restrictions, hyperbole, or mandatory masks, and 61,000 people died that season.

Seems pretty consistent with what we've been saying - it helps slow the spread, but doesn't stop it

1.8% of those "recommended to wear masks" got infected, 2.1% of control group did

I saw this yesterday.  The answer is the US has contracts for 100 million doses with five manufacturers and an option for another 500 million doses with Pfizer.

Statistically insignificant.  Also, are we gonna wear masks for influenza for years to come?  Why haven't we done it already?
