Coronavirus - Doomsday

To keep this number as low as possible we need to prepare as a country. We need to slow the spread to a manageable rate so that the hospitals do not get overwhelmed. This means lots of testing and to shut down public events in cities/areas that become hotspots.

The pandemic has not yet started in America, of course the number is 0. However, from the best scientific articles it spreads easier than the flu and is around a thousand times more deadly.

It is better to react when there are small amounts of cases than when there are large amounts of cases.

We’ve been doing a good job so far. Out of a the people that were out of the country and contracted it we only have 20 infected with no deaths. At certain bases here in America it takes people a few hours to get through the gate cause they are screening people. Our response has been excellent. Only fear mongering liberals trying to make it seem worse than it is are “upset” and hoping it gets worse so they can go “see! We told you! Trump didn’t handle this well! Haha!” Those types of people are the worst kinda of humans (see newbtard)

I can tell you the crazy people in my company are over-reacting to the current situation.  Our stance is that we will be deferring to CDC for guidance and will react based on what they say.  We have not stopped travel for employees and we are not encouraging people to work from home, but we are telling people that, if you are sick, stay home.  That is the same as the guidance from before this virus came to light.

I've taken one precaution.  I scrub my hands more often and for a longer time.  That's it.  Oh, and I bought two cans of SPAM at the grocery store Sunday instead of one.

The reality is that at least half of the population lacks this most fundamental skill.

There’s no need to be concerned like the retard wants you to be. Literally pneumonia is worse. Take the same precautions that you would with the flu. That’s it. That’s all you need to do.

The Diamond Princess is at 1% mortality, and South Korea is now at a .8% mortality.

While this is still ~1000 times higher than the flu, it is half of what it was in mainland China. Hopefully this is good news and as testing methods improve the mortality ticks down.

Didn't twitter ban zerohedge for trying to inform the public on this thing. That it wasn't from bat focking soup, that it most likely escaped out of the bioweapons lab in Wuhan ?

Honestly, I don't know.  That site is like scare porn but I love checking it and reading the articles and sometimes even more so, the replies.

Let's hope this chart holds true for the rest of the world.  I doubt it as China took some seriously drastic measures to contain that might not be possible elsewhere.

Below are some stats on the flu, hopefully you can see the magnitude of difference between the two. Also you know that the major complication of this is pneumonia? You cannot say pneumonia is worse when that is what this is.

At least one in five people worldwide were infected with swine flu during the first year of the 2009-2010 H1N1 pandemic, an international research group said on Friday, but the death rate was just 0.02 percent.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-flu-h1n1-pandemic/swine-flu-infected-1-in-5-death-rate-low-study-shows-idUSBRE90O0T720130125

The mean annual global influenza-associated respiratory mortality rate per 100 000 was 5.9, with regional estimates ranging from 4.5 in Eastern Mediterranean to 6.2 in the Americas (.0059%).

Heard a Dr. from the CO health dept. on the radio today.  Said we'd tested 14 people in CO, there were no active cases, and the risk was low.  Said to do normal things people should be doing already - wash hands with soap, stay home from work if sick, avoid sick people, etc....Said masks aren't really helpful if you're not sick.  They're good for keeping things in but their effectiveness at keeping things out is questionable.  She didn't seem too concerned.

This is what I've wondered too.  How effective are these N95 masks at keeping the virus out?  They are used by drywallers to mitigate dust inhalation.  Do they really even work on microscopic airborne particles?

Don't forget he would have been clairvoyant and known that we needed CV19 tests months ago and what symptoms should be tested.

Was there not a HUGE caravan at the boarder retained by Mexico?

You keep mentioning M13 gang members, you do realize that over 90% of the active members here in the US are illegal immigrants right

Still don't see any evidence of a panic

Keywords here. FLU. We already have a vaccine for the flu. We just alter it every year to the different strains. We also have different medications for the flu and our bodies have naturally built up a substantial immunity to prevent most of us from dying.

This is a new virus. We have no previous vaccines or information to go off of except what we’ve learned from other viruses. We are having to use what little information the rest of the world has gathered. Even with this, our natural immunity has us at surviving 98% of the time. We could just not treat it and we would be fine. Most of the people dying from it are in poor areas with poor hygiene and poor food supplies. Those peoples immunities are lowered than what they’d normally be.

Now, we have ways of detecting it and have ways of combating it to prevent deaths. And the flu? Ever hear of the Spanish influenza? Killed an estimated 20-50 million people. Why did I bring this up? Because the flu USED to be extremely deadly. The fact that this new virus has such a low mortality rate and how quickly we are developing ways to fight it shows it’s not that serious.

Trying to debate me on this topic is useless Unless you have the same qualifications or better. I’ve got a degree in this. Focused in bacteriology, virology, immunology. I know what I’m talking about here

Point is, people saying that Trump is trying to be presidential and keep the public calm are totally ignoring the fact that Trump's game plan is always the exact opposite., He tries putting fear into the heads of the public.  So let's stop with the bullsh*t and just admit that this time he's trying to play it down because of his approval rating. It's all political bullsh*t. Which is all Trump knows. Normally, it induces an eyeroll or a chuckle. This time, it could kill Americans.

I have heard of the spanish influenza, but it was not deadly due to lack of treatment, it was deadly because that particular strain of influenza was more deadly than other strains.

For example H5N1 is the very extreme of influenza, and even with modern treatment it has a very high mortality rate.

https://www.who.int/influenza/human_animal_interface/avian_influenza/h5n1_research/faqs/en/

A 2% mortality rate in a disease that spreads easily is not something that we have seen for a hundred years. I am not sure why you are downplaying it.

Not once has anything the POTUS as stated put fear into my head, I'm sure the mass majority of sane people feel the same way.  Fact is that making for a united front  when disseminating information about the outbreak is the right thing to do.  Disinformation/misinformation is much more dangerous in a situation like this and pushing forward bad information has become common place.

Everything the POTUS does in no related to his approval rating no matter how many times you say it.

Bruh you’re trying to move the goalposts here. The fact is this virus isn’t on par with the different flus. Not from lack of treatment but from how they are in general. Flu is deadly. It’s a mutating virus that adapts every year with certain strains resulting in death. Flu is a very dangerous virus if left alone. This one? Well from all our advances we don’t have to worry about it. It’s not gonna cause all kinds of deaths like the flu has. In fact it’s got less symptoms than the flu.

Trust me, it’s not as serious as you are trying to make it be
