Is Las Vegas done? when will people go back?

Recommended Posts

This isn't like 9/11 when people were just afraid to fly.

This is a whole new ballgame. How will they survive this?

Good thing the Raiders are moving there 😐

The second it’s allowed, the casinos will be full again. I’m still shocked they shut down to begin with despite it obviously being the smart thing.

Vegas has nothing to worry about.  At some point, people will get back into their old habits.  No way do people stay away.

Before all the COVID mess my friends and I were waiting for the NFL schedule to come out so we could plan a trip to Vegas when the Bills are playing the Raiders.  We might still do it but there is a bunch of uncertainty now.

We do 1-2 trips per year.  Will likely look at other options.

Vegas will rebound.

Macau? That's a whole nother eggroll.

Macau sucks. The strip there is a low end knockoff of the Vegas strip. The casinos are a whole different vibe. In Vegas, it's people drinking and gambling for fun. The mood is light. In Macau, it's a bunch of people with their whole villages savings. It's business, not fun. Entirely different feel.

Spot on. Mohegan Sun in Connecticut Has one of their casinos dedicated to the Chinese. I’ve been in there and you can’t get a drink. The waitress comes around about once an hour. Because they don’t drink. They are working.  Miserable a-holes and they want to play behind you on blackjack if you get hot. Then have the balls to try and tell you what to play.

High rollers will return. Bachelor parties will return.  Football will be a shot in the arm.   Come January of 2021 I expect they will be offering ridiculous deals to lure the rest of us.

Vegas is full of degenerates who don't care about their health.

The real question is what the hell is Disney World and other theme parks gonna do?  Millions of people jam packed in long lines - people from all over the world, old and young.  How do they change that?  And are they going to sterilize every seat after every ride?

Considering the stripping of wealth from the country it could provide job opportunities.

Disney and the people that go there are more despicable than anything in Vegas.

Las Vegas Mayor: Casino Closures ‘Total Insanity’

Mayor Is Calling For Bus

Quote

With more than 20 percent of Nevada’s workforce filing for unemployment in the past month, the mayor of Las Vegas, Carolyn Goodman, called the closure of businesses in the gaming capital of America “total insanity.”

“This shutdown has become one of total insanity in my opinion, for there is no backup of data as to why we are shut down from the start, no plan in place how to move through the shutdown or how even to come out of it,” Goodman said.

“Being closed is killing us already,” she added.

In the last week 5.245 million Americans filed for unemployment benefits for the first time. That brings the four-week total to 22 million. The American Gaming Association estimates that 1.8 million casino jobs are in jeopardy of being lost.

Since Nevada governor Steve Sisolak enacted a 30-day shutdown on April 1, Goodman has called for it to be shortened. The mayor is now calling for businesses to be allowed to reopen throughout Nevada.

“We cannot keep our heads in the sand and think it’s going to go away,” she said. “We’re adults with brains who can know what to do to wash our hands, to take all precautions not to spread this disease.”

“But let me tell you: with a population of 3.2 million living in Nevada, those whom we lost represent less than a half of one percent of our population, which has caused us to shut down our entire state and everything that makes Nevada unique,” she said.

Nevada had officially reported 137 deaths statewide as of April 16.

Nevada casinos raked in $1.042 billion in gross gaming revenue in February, the last full month of gaming revenue for at least the immediate future. Traffic at online casino offerings has surged during the lockdown, but in no way can replace the land based revenue and the jobs it supports.

Even if they open, no one is traveling :dunno:

I don't want to get on a plane anytime soon. My dad is elderly, so it's only phone calls for a while from me. If anything should happen and he passes. I'm driving. 15 hours of enclosed space with noone else breathing my air is infinitely better than getting in a flying disease-filled cigar tube.

Brad Garrett's Comedy Club at the MGM is closed until June 21st. I'd expect things to open back up around then.

He didn't disappear, he went to Vegas and opened a club for other stand ups to perform. One of the best clubs in the country from what I've heard from the comics who've performed there.
