Twitter adopts 'poison pill' to prevent Elon Musk takeover

but FB is just a complete cesspool; a place for angry old people to complain to like-minded elderly grumps.

Young people left Facebook to get away from the old people... and then became the same people on Twitter.  That's the only difference between the two platforms.

Elon should hire Professor Morris.  This man is the voice of reason.  And a Phillies fan

Voice of reason?  Really?  He comes off as a bit of a bigot.

What’s that that no one wants?

Full blown totalitarianism. We’ve already seen what the ruling class is willing to do when challenged by the plebs.

I don’t know how voting the left out would bring that about.  Not  saying you are wrong, I’m just not seeing it.  I just want the madness curtailed at least. Or at least try.

Well, he literally said to ignore people.  He's clearly talking about people whom he doesn't agree with.  No?

Ignoring people you don't agree with, solely because they disagree with you, yes... that's being a bigot.

This is what Musk should do.

You clearly haven’t read much of Morris’s stuff.  He remains incredibly calm even when arguing things that certified crazy people like Steve Kirsch or “the Ethical Skeptic” have said.  But there are some people that are too far gone (or just trolling) that he needs to ignore - I think he’s just saying there might be more of those now.

Never heard of him.  You posted a tweet by some guy.  I read it as such.

Yes, Democrats. We finally agree.  Look at that.

So I don't want to be a bigot, but I do tend to ignore people that I don't agree with.  What should I be doing instead?

He said he’s gonna fire 75% of the employees. If I worked for a company whose owner said that, I would send resumes out immediately.

I honestly doubt most Twitter employees care about the politics. They just need a job, so it’s better to quit and find another job than to be fired.

I’m betting a good chunk of these Twitter employees are here on work visas. Now that they don’t have a job they can leave.

How can he possibly fire 75% of the workforce?  He's gonna destroy this company.  Insane.

Could also be he's focking around and fishing for entertaining meltdown reactions since he has a sort of gallows humor about him.

I’ve read a number of articles indicating that Twitter has far more employees than it needs.

Of course, Musk also claims he’s going to turn Twitter into an “everything” app like WeChat in China. Somehow, that doesn’t mesh with firing 75% of your employees. So who knows what his actual plans are… if he even has any.

Read yesterday that in his meetings with employees he's already backed off that number.

Entire thing is interesting as an observer, maybe he makes it grow and become profitable, but recent trends don't support that outcome. Just my opinion, but he just bought Pet.com in 1999.

I don't know anyone that works at Twitter so I can't offer any insight.  Will be interesting indeed.

Did you look at the video showing what a day of work is?  It looked like they had cooks there.  How many employees do they actually need there?

LOL.  Sure they do.  I'm at the main corporate office for a major corporation right now.  We don't have any cooks.  I've worked for several of the largest corporations in this country and have yet to see any cooks.  I mean, we have a cafeteria and it has several fast food type places in it.  Basically, it's a food court and I guess you could classify the people making food there as cooks.  But I don't think that's what we're talking about relative to that video.  I will concede that many tech firms, and Twitter is one, do tend to offer things like that.  Seems kind of dumb for a company that hasn't really ever made a profit though.

I find that hard to believe.  You can cut maybe 20%.  Ive never seen an organization that poorly run.

Sure.  He's not cutting 75%. We know that.  But they have a lot of woke jobs that could certainly be cut back on, such as their moderation staff.

Yes I was referring to people that make food in the cafeteria, you know, cooks.  I didn't watch the video.  Is there another type of cook?

Having followed the tech sector for a long time, the “perks” serve two main purposes.

First, it’s about attracting young talent. Unlimited free food and drink is appealing to young single workers who probably don’t want to cook for themselves.

Second, it’s about maximizing time at the office. The idea is that if they’ve got food, a video arcade, pool tables, etc, etc. at work… you have anything you need or want and can stay there until late in the evening and only go home to sleep.

I question whether the idea of the perks was ever really as effective as the bosses thought. And with work-from-home a big reality now, I feel like even the bosses who pushed for them have to be questioning their effects.

I worked at the PepsiCo world HQ in the late 80’s. We had a cafeteria with cooks. But we had to pay for everything but drinks and chips. Doesn’t look from that video the employees had to pay. And Wine?

Unlimited free food and drink sounds like a terrible idea if you care about employee health and keeping insurance premiums down.  Perhaps it doesn't matter if turnover is really high.
