Time always tells but I highly doubt pissing off a few "celebrities" is going to hurt Twitter too badly.

Celebrities are the big differentiator for Twitter. It’s got 200-250 million users, compared to FB with 2 billion. The celebrities bring the eyeballs, Twitter sells ads to the viewers. If Musk keeps going down this road, he is biting the hand that feeds him.

I don't think that anyone can just pay $8 and be verified.  You still have to meet the requirements and if you want the check then you pay for it.

For one I think you could argue that much of the stuff streamed on ESPN+ was not available to see at all previously. But even if it was, the difference is ESPN is not announcing that they’re doing it for the good of society.
