He's having a blast with this.

That was funny, but if he’s trying to charge $8 to the majority of users then twitter probably won’t be around much longer

Weirdly that is one pedo story the GC didn’t seem to care much about

Only people who want to keep their check mark would pay. No one has to pay a dime at the moment.

You’re right Tim, the GC be slippin.  We forgot to point out another left wing pedophile. Good job re-enforcing that. Thanks 🤡

At the moment yes, but saying “you get what you pay for” is quite literally implying that if you pay nothing, you get nothing

I hope a million people open a Twitter account with the name Stephen King.

Even if Elon got all his blue-checkmark people to pay, that would be about $15 million a year. His INTEREST payment on the loan for Twitter is $1 billion. Twitter gets about $5 billion in revenue from ads. Charging for the blue checkmark would be equivalent to 1 days’ worth of ads.

And, if the only requirement for the blue mark is $20 a month, then you could have lots of Steven Kings or Donald Trumps, all with blue checkmarks. Then none of them are “verified” and you don’t know who is the real one.

And if he does this, and people realize the blue checkmark no longer confers legitimacy, then nobody will pay it.

Trolling some of the most popular and money-generating accounts on your site and then asking them for a monthly fee? I think we are seeing that Musk is FAR from a business genius.

Yeah, ok there Einstein.  Isn't he like the richest person in the world?  Steven King is gonna take him down.

Time always tells but I highly doubt pissing off a few "celebrities" is going to hurt Twitter too badly.

I have a sneaky suspicion that Musk is already aware of your advanced math analysis.  Perhaps his goal is not to make riches from $8/month, but to separate the wheat from the chaff?  :dunno:

You didn't ask anything, you made a silly statement having no idea if it applied to me or not.

This isn't going well for you, you may want to take the next few plays off. I know this will be difficult for you since you enjoy getting the last word, no matter how dumb it is...

I am very sorry this happened to you. :(

You are very triggered by a simple sentence.....I am very sorry for you. BTW- did you figure out what the word "headline" means yet?

If anybody can be “verified” for $8 a month, the opposite would occur. You’ll have way more chaff than ever before.

I guess he thinks this will inspire millions of “ordinary” people to pay $100 a year to get what they were getting for free before, just with a blue checkmark by their name now? I’m sure it will work out great. For his sake, I hope he doesn’t miss too many payments to the Saudis.

Celebrities are the big differentiator for Twitter. It’s got 200-250 million users, compared to FB with 2 billion. The celebrities bring the eyeballs, Twitter sells ads to the viewers. If Musk keeps going down this road, he is biting the hand that feeds him.

AOC does have a point though.  Elon saying things like “power to the people!” while trying to charge people for things that used to be free is a little cringe

I don't think that anyone can just pay $8 and be verified.  You still have to meet the requirements and if you want the check then you pay for it.

If that’s the case, then this will make almost no money whatsoever. And could lead to fewer users on the platform. It seems like a terrible business decision.

For one I think you could argue that much of the stuff streamed on ESPN+ was not available to see at all previously. But even if it was, the difference is ESPN is not announcing that they’re doing it for the good of society. I already said in this thread I don’t blame Elon for trying to make Twitter profitable. But that’s what it is, not him doing it for the good of the people.

What's the BS? It's his company now. Who cares what he does with it? It's not like spreading the concept of owning a business and charging for services is a bad thing in our society.

As far as I know, he's doing all of this for fun just because he can.  It's just social media, people need to take it easy.
