I get it but name ONE high talent Niner player that's not injury prone. Now think about CM, Deebo, Kittle and BA with a healthy Trent and healthy D. I just did and made a mess in my pants

You live in AZ but continue your allegiance to a city that celebrates feces in its streets; c :tongrats on adding another injured cog to your injury machine.

you need a franchise QB to expect a super bowl win, not an injury prone RB.  Seems like a bad trade but maybe they'll get lucky.

He’s a game changer, hope it works out for them cuz damn that’s lots and lots of draft capital they gave up.

Great trade for the Niners. They gave up four picks but none in the first round. Adding McCaffrey to Deebo and Kittle could make that O dangerous and the NFC is very weak this year.

I mean I get it.  As a Packers fan I admire a team willing to go for it.  But trading tons of picks for a RB of any kind in todays game? Let alone one that costs a lot of money.  Let alone one that gets hurt? He does make that offense dynamic but they still have Jimmy G.

9er are known to have a system where any RB can be plugged in an be quality.   Just look at thr backs over the years who have done real well in that system.

Then consider what they have spent on thr backfield over the years.  Positons we all call very replaceable.   RB hardly matters in this league.

49ers spending on their backfield

- Christian McCaffrey 2023 2nd, 3rd, 4th, plus 2024 5th rd pick

- Jerrick McKinnon 4 years $30 million

- Tevin Coleman 2 years $10 million

- Kyle Juszczyk 5 years $27 million

- '22 3rd round Tyrion Davis-Price

- '21 3rd round Trey Sermon

Normally I’m not a fan of investing big resources into the RB position but it makes a lot of sense for the Niners right now. They have an excellent D and some really good weapons on O and didn’t give up a single first. It’s a seriously down year for the NFC with no dominating team. Adding McCaffrey to an O that already has Deebo could be really interesting. And McCaffrey is under contract for 3 more years at around $12m per. That’s not bad at all for a player of his caliber even with the injury issues.

Honestly I think it’s a steal for SF.

I don't in anyway think it is a steal.  But I can see where they are coming from.  Kudos to them for dumping endless picks and money into the RB/FB position and still remaining relevant to compete.

CMac is real good.   But what did he do for the Panthers offense who had DJ Moore.  Robbie Anderson.  Curtis Samuel before he left.  They too have shotty QB play.  He got stats.  Yet the Panthers went no where.  I understand it is a different dynamic in SF as they have Shanny and a top defense.

Like I said, I admire they are willing to go for it.  I just would never give up most of a whole draft for any RB.

A second, third, fourth, and fifth for an oft injured running back?? Screw that.

If they don't win the SB this year, they are going to regret that trade for the next couple years.

Deebo, Kittle and Aiyuk are better than McCaffrey’s supporting cast in Carolina. I’m not a big Jimmy G fan but he is much better than Baker too. 49ers can also mix in Mitchell and keep McCaffrey’s touches reasonable.

I’m not going to judge this trade on what the 49ers did at RB in the past. I think it was a good move for a team in win now mode with minimal long term risk.

We’ll see.

Undrafted Matt Breida led them in rushing in 18, undrafted Raheem Mostert led them in rushing in 19, undrafted Jeff Wilson led them in rushing in 20 & 6th rd Elijah Mitchell led them in 21.

They get so much out of these late rd or undrafted guys yet they continue to spend on the posiiton.  A lot of these guys were very effective in this system.  As a Packers fan I know.  Mostert was unstoppable.  You can stick a guy off the street in the backfield in SF and see good numbers.

If I made the NFL rules, the trade deadline would be the start of Week 1. Something wrong about players jumping off a sinking ship nearly half-way through the season and landing on a team contending for the playoffs. Along with a team just giving up, while another one loads up.

Every sport allows trades deep into the season.  It allows teams to go all in for the playoffs or to start planning for the offseason.

That don't make it right.  Trading should be done in the off-season, not mid-season.

Why have any trade deadline then? What's the point? It's already a screwed up system.

No brainer for the 9ers, go all in now and hopefully get some of the injured talent back. He's an immediate game changer.

The compensation was fine as well.

The NFC is extremely top heavy.  Philly, Dallas, and maybe Green Bay if they can get straightened out.  Possibly Tampa but I don’t see it. This puts SF in that group now.

The niners/Shanahan have a running scheme that seems to injure runningbacks at a higher rate than normal. Every year they seem to go through multiple backs, some times as many as 4-5 runningbacks if i recall correctly.

One of the most fragile runningbacks is now going to a scheme that injures runningbacks. This is my only hesitation, however while he remains healthy i expect big numbers from McCaffrey.

How does a scheme cause injury?

Niners at the top of that group if the defense and Trent is healthy without CM. Ad CM to that offense with a healthy D and Trent back?      oooooooohhhhh myyyyyyyyy

So SF spent a 3rd rounder last year on an RB, a 3rd and a 5th the year before last on RBs, and now a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th.

That's a lot of draft capital.

I thought they were before.   As good as any of them come playoff time.  I still think they will win games 24 to 17

They were, and Green Bay does not belong up there.

I am not sure, it just seems like every year he goes through RB's at a higher rate than league average.

2021 - 3 starting RB's

2020 - 4

2019 - 2

2018 - 3

2017 - 1 Carlos Hyde!

Mostert led them with like 700 yds

Will go down as the dumbest trade in Niners history. You don't trade away nearly all your picks for a sixth year injury prone RB.  So dumb. Probably will blow his ACL this weekend.

Spending three 1sts and a 3rd to draft Trey Lance is gonna to be hard to beat. This isn’t even the Dumbest Niners Trade of the Decade.

This is my take for sure. SF blew this trade bad.

Disagree. At least Lance is still young. It's basically a science as this point, RBs go massively down hill right around 30 like clockwork.

McCaffrey is 26 - his contract expires in his age 29 season.
