1. Quit my job.

2. Hire an attorney.

3. Set up a trust with 50 million dollars invested in a safe, interest bearing account.

4. Pay lawyer fees with interest earned on 50 million dollar investment, to manage trust.

5. Trust is 100% out of my hands, and anyone who asks me for an investment loan, gift, school money, etc., gets referred to trust.

6. Trust will determine eligibility of monetary requests and can only give out money based on predetermined criteria agreed to by myself and lawyers.

7. Never worry again about people asking me for money.

8. Buy Lamborghini. I don't care which one. Black.

9. Attempt 200mph in Lamborghini. Probably with Mmmm....Beer in the passenger seat, just so I have a witness. He can shoot at street signs while we attempt this.

10. Buy 10 - $1,000,000 homes throughout the US. Prepay taxes, maintenance, heat and electric on each home for next 40 years.

11. Pay off all debts of parents and siblings. Setup trust that pays them each $50,000 per year for next 40 years.

12. Hire personal assistant. With enormous cans.

13. Hire personal trainer. Because I'm about to RUIN my heart.

14. Hookers and Blow. P!ss away the rest.

With 1.3 billion, I'd have enough money to buy up all combinations on the next 2 Powerball drawings, and still have $100m left over. May as well use my money to make money, right?

No offense, but you guys are a bunch of pikers. First of all, I'm not paying all those taxes. Too rich to have to pay them. I'll immediately file a lawsuit, and have that money put in escrow until the case winds its way through. In the meantime, I'll borrow against it at a nice low interest rate, invest that and when it comes out the other end I'll pay the capital gains rate. So I pay about 3%-4% interest, plus the 15% pct capital gains, instead of the 38% I would have to otherwise. I would also go about buying 9-10 congressmen, and a few senators. Then I really start taking it in. Then the American public might start to get it

The government is sure going to come out the winner when someone wins...

http://www.marketwatch.com/story/i-already-know-the-winner-of-the-next-powerball-drawing-2016-01-10

But let’s not focus on the “winner” here because the real winner of the lottery system is not the person who buys the winning ticket. The real winner is the government, which taxes the winner. The government automatically withholds 25%, but the winner will be bumped into the highest marginal tax bracket in the case of the lump sum. In addition, the player will very likely pay a state tax (usually 4% to 9%) and perhaps even local taxes. While the Powerball will be marketed as a $900 million prize, the actual payout to a winner in, say, Washington D.C., will be only $289.6 million — a full 68% less than advertised.

anyone who is thinking about taking lump sum should think again

you will get 1.3 billion paid out over 20 years (able to be placed in trust for heirs) which comes out to roughly 65 million annually, you will then be taxed quite immensely, but still net way more than the 400 mil you might get from the lump sum. When people above talk about investing or what not, what investment are you going to get 100% profit guaranteed over 20 years, and 40 mil annually is more than enough to live off, also there are not many places to keep your 400 mil safe

my choice is not lump sum, but I am in the 1% minority probably

I'm 46 now, surely to Gawd the $600m or so I'd get in a lump sum would be enuff to not have to worry about "running out" till I pass... Plus with the lump sum - I have more control over who gets what and how it's spent.

you could invest in tax free municipal bonds(and that's being super conservative) and come out ahead of the annuity payments.

I think the annuity is 30 years these days, not 20. I'm 48 which means I'd be getting paid until 78; if I won I would expect to die earlier than that from all of the Asian hookers and heroin.

China is starting to sound p. cool.

Well, the thing with pills in China im told is there is no fda.

So your oxy could be pure oxy straight from the pheizer plant. Or it could be compacted rat poison. You just never really know.

For the record, I have not touched an illegal drug in China. Chinese jail is a travel experience I am content to only experience through reading. But I do know people who can find things, I just don't patronize them personally.

I'm not sure about 2 drawings but that's pretty interesting that a person could be guaranteed to win for 584 million. This article said it would take 9 years to get every possible combination if you bought 1 ticket every second.

You'd pay more in taxes taking it all in one lump sum however tax rates could go up. Historically speaking, income taxes have certainly been higher in other time periods.

Now you could potentially take the annuity option and move (for year 2) to an income tax-free state which would help at all but the federal level.

And go buy things in sales tax-free states.

Is there really no beneficiary continuation option?

That doesn't seem legit.

There's no doubt then you'd take the lump sum.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/powerball-prize-invites-myths-misconceptions-lottery-212121424.html

WINNERS WHO TAKE AN ANNUITY FACE BIG TAX DANGERS.

One of the most persistent misconceptions, officials said, is that winners risk tax trouble if they opt for an annuity but die before all 29 payments are made.

Terry Rich, chief executive of the Iowa Lottery, said he's heard this one frequently and repeatedly explains that if someone dies, that person's estate will treat the annuity like any other asset. A winner's heirs may choose to cash in an annuity and then pay taxes on the money, but that's a choice they must make.

Investment planners note, however, that when winners choose how to receive their money, they should consider their age and whether they mind if some of the cash remains out of their reach and goes to their heirs instead.

Yeah but no. After someone wins it resets to 40 million. You going to spend $350+ million to "win" 40 mill AND risk sharing it potentially with another winner.

Flawed theory
