Things you look forward to

Recommended Posts

This is going to be one of my little "look at me" posts. Some of you seem to like that crap. Read on. Some of you tend to hate it. Feel free to leave the thread.

Anyway, so one of the things I hated about my life back home was there was never anything to look forward to. It was just fifty weeks of the GRIND with two separate weeks vacation, but nowhere nearby to go.

Now, I just a month ago did the trip to the Philippines, Singapore, and Malaysia. Each month left of the school year, there is a three day weekend. Can go to cool places nearby.

Then in the summer, it will be three weeks home (one week of which may be a family trip to Coasta Rica). Then, back to Asia, and a trip to Thailand (with a side jaunt into Cambodia to see Angor Wat).

So in August, two thirds into the year, it will have been eight countries. With another vacation to go in October.

I find it really important to have things to look forward to. Something a short way off that will be awesome.

So what you guys got on the horizon that keeps you sane? Trips? New toys? New poosay?

Whatcha got?

I've got a ton of trips planned this year as well. This Sunday we are going to Puerto Penasco (aka Rocky Point) Sonora, Mexico for 5 days. Beautiful house in a resort on the beach. In May my wife and I are going to Dubai for 5 days on a company incentive trip; thinking of extending it for a few days in Prague (long story, I may start a thread about it). In June she and I go to Little Rock to watch two of our best friends be inducted as taekwondo masters. July our extended families are going to the NC Outer Banks. This fall my wife's uncle is springing for us all to go on a Caribbean cruise. Hell I may be fired for taking all of this time off, but fock it, we are supposed to be able to take it, so why not.

Sounds like you have some cool stuff planned. Would love to hear about your Cambodia trip, you should keep us updated. Vietnam and Cambodia are two places I would love to visit someday.

I changed jobs about 6 months ago to travel less, as I have two young children.

I now miss the travel a bit, even though 80% of it was to the middle east or north africa.

What did you used to do that took you to such places?

Usually about every year I just go crazy and plan like five trips at once and summer concerts.

So we just did the World Series in November. Hawaii in January. Doing the big 12 tournament next week and then skiing. Def Leppard concert in April. Dominican Republic in May Phoenix in June. Tom Petty I think in may as well?

I'm guessing we do a little family trip to st. Louis as well.

The highlight of my day is usually taking a nap, so I guess I look forward to taking naps.

I look forward to travelling as well. We just got back from a couple trips to Whistler, Jackson Hole, Vail and Brekenridge. So probably nothing for a while, though trying to arrange a trip to Yosemite this fall. My wife keeps pestering me to go to NYC as well, so we may make out to th E coast at some point. She wants to go to Boston too, but I keep changing the subject when she brings it up - I have no interest whatsoever.

I also look forward to the NFL season, and Wimbledon + Tour de France to a lesser extent.

Come to think of it, brings back good memories.

I remember looking forward to the new cartoon lineup every fall. Totally made-up for going back to school.

This was the days with SuperFriends, Scooby, Herculoids - all the great cartoons. Life was better then.

In fact, I pretty much consider the world becoming a progressively suckier place when they introduced

muppet babies, scrappy doo and warner babies (or whatever).

Absolutely LOVED that time of year. Fall Smells & New Cartoons, More so than BD's, XMAS, - pretty much anything.

Don't think there's anything I look forward to like that anymore.

Other than dying in my sleep.

My baseball season starts in a month. Except for a 6 week break in Summer, I will play until Thanksgiving. A week at a NC beach in June, a week at a Delaware beach in August.

Warm weather and daylight savings (next weekend).

I have a 3 year old son. The things I look forward to are teaching him how to fish this year. Got him a cane pole just like I started off on.

A week at a cabin on the lake in the UP with wife and kids. No phones or TV. Fishing, swimming and skiing all day, grilling fresh fish for dinner, playing board games with the kids and skinny dipping with the wife after the sun goes down.

Watching my boys play baseball, football and basketball.

Summer evenings in MI. We can golf, play tennis, bike, or hit the beach right after work at 5 and stay with it until the sun goes down after 9.

In the next 3+ months...NCAA tournament, daylight savings, opening day, first 80 degree day, cutting the grass, softball, family to Disney in May, going to the beach, summer days by the pool, summer nights outdoors, wearing shorts and short sleeves.

Spring.

I live in michigan

Me too. Can't believe a couple of Sundays ago it was 60+ and I was outside cleaning the garage in shorts. Strange winter, get a lake effect blizzard first week of December, 14 inches. Buy new snowblower to avoid tearing tendon in arm shoveling snow for the THIRD TIME...only 5 inches of snow since.

I'm easily amused, I look forward to the first of each month to see what the new picture on my calendar will be.

I just got back from vacation, but I don't plan that much. I probably could really look to travel, but I have kids and other responsibilities. So, I will wait.

However, I look forward to simple things during the course of the week, so I actually feel good about just going about my normal days.
