dain11279 967 Posted May 10, 2017 Kathy Berman, the wife of longtime ESPN broadcaster Chris Berman, died Tuesday in a car accident in rural Connecticut. Berman was killed in a two-car crash near Woodbury, Connecticut. Berman, a teacher, was married to Chris for more than 33 years and had two children, Meredith and Douglas. "This is a devastating tragedy and difficult to comprehend," John Skipper, president of ESPN, said in a statement. "Chris is beloved by all his ESPN colleagues and for good reason: he has a huge heart and has given so much to so many over the years. We know how much his family means to him and all we can do at a moment like this is give him the love and support he will surely need at this hour. Our thoughts and prayers are with Chris, Meredith, Doug and the entire family." Chris Berman joined ESPN in 1979. He married Kathy four years later. In 1993, the Hartford Courant told the story of how Chris Berman faked car trouble so he could ask Kathy for help and a breakfast date. Chris left his post as a host of ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown after 31 seasons in January. He remains with the network after signing a new contract. Services are pending. Can't stand the doosh but sad nonetheless.

Fumbleweed 526 Posted May 10, 2017 Even Geek Club hilarity should have boundaries from my perspective. This is one of those times, although it's not as bad as the Todd Heap thread from a few weeks back. Just my opinion. It's a free board. Sad story.

dain11279 967 Posted May 10, 2017 The thread about Todd Heap's kid is the gold standard IMO. That's pretty much the saddest story you can hear and posters still made jokes about it (myself included). Hell, I'm not ashamed to admit that I made this thread knowing and hoping that the Berman catchphrases would soon come flying in. For all the vile sh1t we say on here when someone dies and whatnot, I think (hope) 99% isn't truly meant. It's just for comedy's sake.
Cruzer 1,995 Posted May 10, 2017 "According to Connecticut State Police, Berman, 69, was driving a Lexus on Tuesday just after 2 p.m. when it collided with a Ford Escape. The Lexus then went down an embankment and overturned into a body of water. The Escape was driven by 87-year-old Edward Bertulis, who also died as a result of his injuries from the crash." Cruzer 1,995 Posted May 10, 2017 So it was a double header? Zing! Berman is now the 100%, sole owner of all his $$$... He's 62 with a pocket full of money and a no spouse... How long before he's snorting coke and banging 30 year olds in fancy hotels?

ZeroTolerance 584 Posted May 10, 2017 Berman never said she's gone. obviously said back back back. I think he got lazy sometimes in the Home Run Derby and did "Back back back back...gone!", but you are correct that the "she" part was never his shtick. We put on clown makeup to mask the pain we're feeling inside, because it's just too raw to deal with. It's a coping strategy. Or maybe we're just a bunch of sick focks. No good bye. ugh December 28, 2014, Sunday Morning. I woke up and had a voicemail from my dad's landline in Maine where he lives. was a 1 am call. Before I heard the VM, I knew it was bad. thought instantly something was wrong with my father and my step mom was calling. I heard my father talking and he has the tact of a rapist. "Ed, Corey died in a car accident last night, we will probably be at Mary's. (mary being his wife) (my step bro of 30+ years) I told the story here when it happened. Our parents got married because we were friends and that's how they met. We were a few months apart in age he was pretty much a brother to me. I started to bawl. Was absolutely focking terrible. (got a similar call back December 2000 from my father when my mother died)

(got a similar call back December 2000 from my father when my mother died) Yeah, that's a tough one. Everyone knows death is part of life. And that we'll all lost multiple loved ones through the years. But usually, it's old age. Or a diagnosis that you can come to terms with as the time passes. Calls like Berman got (and you) just shatter your world in two seconds. No way to prepare. And God forbid your last words were a fight or you start realizing you haven't told them what they mean to you in a long time. I'm encouraging everyone to tell your parents, kids, and siblings that you love them tonight. Like Chris Berman wishes he did yesterday.
