You don't buy the Wuhan lab theory? Not sure if it was deliberate or not but the virus originating in the Wuhan lab seems more likely to me than bat soup.

I haven't gone back thru this thread but this virus almost definitely came from a Wuhan lab.  Is that really in doubt? :dunno:

I haven't really kept up with each post.. I know Feb/March that was what was popular.  Didn't know everyone was now on board the lab theory.

If it wasn't deliberate and it was an accident China was still advised not to build the lab in a heavily populated area and just went ahead and did it anyways.

I keep seeing things about Soros and other billionaires help fund it and other labs like it, but haven't looked to much into it. But I don't see why it couldn't be true.  This entire thing is just focked up it seems like we're all just a bunch of peasant lab rats from the way it was handled politically, the fraud committed by all these companies and institutions to the blatant pandering by celebrities.

Anybody else remember how the AIDS virus could make its way through even microscopic holes in condoms, but suddenly now anybody can throw a t-shirt on their face and stop the coronavirus?

Wtf?

I'm of the opinion that condoms work nearly 100% of the time and that 99% of people who say they used one and it didn't work are liars.

There's a school of thought that certain countries don't even promote condoms as a defense against AIDS. If you remember, Reagan was really late to the game and needed to come up with some sort of magic bullet for the American people.

Turns out, 'don't be gay' was about as effective as "just say no."

Huh, Sorta like flattening the curve, don't you think?

Tanzania suspends laboratory head after president questions coronavirus tests

  •
  •

DAR ES SALAAM (Reuters) - Tanzania has suspended the head of its national health laboratory in charge of testing for the coronavirus and ordered an investigation, a day after President John Magufuli questioned the tests’ accuracy.

Magufuli said on Sunday the imported test kits were faulty as they had returned positive results on a goat and a pawpaw — among several non-human samples submitted for testing, with technicians left deliberately unaware of their origins.

He did not say where the kits had been imported from or why the authorities had been suspicious of the results.

Catherine Sungura, acting head of communications at the ministry of health, said in a statement on Monday the director of the laboratory and its quality assurance manager had been immediately suspended “to pave way for the investigation”.

Sungura said a 10-person committee had been formed to investigate the laboratory’s operations, including its process of collecting and testing .

As of Monday, Tanzania had recorded 480 cases of COVID-19 and 18 deaths, according to a Reuters tally based on government and World Health Organization data.

Unlike most other African countries, Tanzania sometimes goes for days without offering updates, with the last bulletin on cases on Wednesday.

Practically nobody in those photos is wearing a mask, except maybe a few workers who happen to be in close proximity to the masks being manufactured, who could potentially contaminate the masks they are making.  Note the tape on the floor; there is a "pass thru" lane where visitors have reduced restrictions.  Note that the sign also calls for safety shoes; I'm guessing that neither the Donald nor his entourage are wearing steel tipped shoes.  Particularly the woman in blue who, from appearances, works for Honeywell.

I may have worked at a facility very... umm... close to this one in the past.  But hey, great catch!

Guess what country just had their IHME predicted number of deaths from COVID-19 reduced significantly?

Quote

Of note, Sweden and the Netherlands were among the few EEA countries that saw lower projected cumulative COVID-19 deaths compared with our last release

But hey, let's keep killing our economy.  It's such a good plan to fight this thing!!!

A focus on the US

  • Based on our updated model and latest available data, a projected 134,475 cumulative COVID-19 deaths (estimate range of 95,092 to 242,890) could occur in the US through August. These projections are considerably higher than previous estimates, representing the combined effects of death model updates and formally incorporating the effect of changes in mobility and social distancing policies into transmission dynamics.

So, the whole document is about a revamped method of doing calculations.  In most places, the estimates are going up.  This would be for places like, oh, where we live.  The US.

However, you focused on two places where the estimate was revamped down.  So, my question to you is "what does Sweden have to do with us?"

Sweden didn't castrate their economy to fight this, and they will have achieved herd immunity around Mid May.  IOW, their whole f-ing country will be essentially back to normal while the rest of the world continues to castrate themselves for another year, trying to simply prevent people from getting it while they pray that a vaccine saves the day.

They forgot to add: The dramatic increase in hospital reporting fraud has greatly contributed to the number of deaths in the US.

Well, I believe that herd immunity requires 60-70% of the people who have had the virus (and antibodies).  The folks in Sweden are between 25-30% who have had it.  You also have to factor their population total and their population density before you can take their stats and utilize them here.  I also don't believe that they are opening up like they were before, so I don't see how you can look at what their economic impact might be.

I also don't see how the document you quoted offers any explanation to what you are now espousing with respect to Sweden and their approach.

Is this the new bogus story going around? Sweden has 10mil people, I don’t think 2.5mil Swedes have had it.

Well, I don't know where you get your info, but this has the quote from a Swedish guy who is in charge of it.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2020/04/28/coronavirus-covid-19-sweden-anders-tegnell-herd-immunity/3031536001/

Quote

Tegnell: We are doing two major investigations. We may have those results this week or a bit later in May. We know from modeling and some data we have already – these data are a little uncertain – that we probably had a transmission peak in Stockholm a couple of weeks ago, which means that we are probably hitting the peak of infections right about now. We think that up to 25% of people in Stockholm have been exposed to coronavirus and are possibly immune. A recent survey from one of our hospitals in Stockholm found that 27% of staff there are immune. We think that most of those are immune from transmission in society, not the workplace. We could reach herd immunity in Stockholm within a matter of weeks.

Ok Stockholm, so you meant one city in Sweden, not the country of Sweden.

Which makes up for 10% of their population.  I am not really following your point.  Herd immunity requires more than just 25% of the people to have had it.  If you are saying that, somehow, the rural population of Sweden will have a higher percentage than their biggest city, then I would love to see those stats.  It requires somewhere between 60-80% of the population to have had it to get herd immunity. At least that is what it has been for other viruses.  Not sure with this one.

No, I’m saying “Sweden” is not close to herd immunity, the city of Stockholm is. Like if someone said “Half of the United States does xyz.” When what they meant was “half of Los Angeles does xyz”. I just wasn’t sure what was being implied cuz the word “Sweden” was being used a lot so then I mentioned they have 10mil people. Then in the link you gave that seemed to be meant as some kind of “GOTCHA!”, it was only talking about Stockholm, which is just a city in Sweden.

My point is that Sweden and Stockholm are not close to herd immunity.  Even if Stockholm is at 25%, they are not close, which I think is applicable to us.  If the number is 60%, then they still have a long way to go.  If the number is as high as 80%, then they really have a long way to go.

Not sure where other states are at, but the studies that I have seen are closer to 25% in cities here, too.  Boston has been lucky to get their testing numbers to be at 20% positive on some days.
