Why did you bold what you did?   Are you denying that SD has the 8th highest covid deaths/million population in the US?  That's a fact, and it's the result of really just 1 "wave" unlike a lot of other areas.  I didn't say Sturgis was the sole cause, I said it likely contributed to it (school reopenings likely did as well).

Aren't you a "more masks, more infections" guy?    I mean it doesn't take a giant leap to think that an event that brought half the number of people that live in the whole state to a town of 7k, probably resulted in increased infections.  The "more masks, more infections" bit doesn't work since masks were mandated early on and no one claimed masks would completely stop covid.   Meanwhile the Sturgis rally occurred 5 months after the pandemic began and cases started increasing shortly after and then deaths about a month after that.

The reason we can treat it more like the flu now is BECAUSE of the vaccine, which should result in the covid death numbers looking more like the flu, hopefully even lower since the covid vaccine is more effective.
