Anyone here solve a Rubicks Cube ?

I did twice but not sure how I did it. I was good at getting three color sides and a couple moves after I solved it. I don't remember what those moves were.

I used to in high school...bought a solution book and learned it step by step.  You start with a simple pattern then do the same 50 ish steps to solve.  Used to have time tournaments with the Casio digital watches with the built in stopwatch.

Old ones were smooth...had to keep em clean and oiled.  The new ones are cheap as hell

In the 80s or 90s I bought a book and could solve it anytime for about a year.  Just for fun I bought one about ten years ago and learned the steps.  I forgot them after a week of not doing it though.

The thing is with the book... it's not needed early - getting one side - easy, getting bottom side next - not as easy, but doable.  It's the final middle squares messed up in the middle require some convoluted memorized sequence to solve.

And I still remember it and can still solve the Cube. My kid thinks I'm cool.

I figured it out in grade school without the aid of any book.  I figured out two different sequences of moves, one you could move a middle piece and one you could move a corner piece.  It was not efficient, but i could solve it in about 5 minutes.

I guess that is the standard. That way everyone starts from the same spot. Not really record solving it, IMO. More like record finishing it.

My kid can solve it in a few mins. He taught me but I can only do like 80% in my own. The visual part I can see I can do but when it comes down memorizing moves I’m lost. Three sides and the yellow cross is as far as I can get on my own.

I had a book that went through sequences:  top, middle sides, bottom corners, bottom sides.  That was, what, 30 years ago, and in recent years I've tried to recall/recreate it with some but not complete success.  It's more interesting trying to ferret out the sequences than just memorizing it, I find in my older years.

Also I always started with orange on top.  Maybe that's why I like Trump.  Did any of you have a similar starting color?

Yellow is the hardest one they say.  Once you can get yellow, it basically solves itself.

True, but I was lost after getting the 2nd side. I was only 13 when this book came out (1982) - it was pretty cool at the time.... I still have it somewhere I think.

Interesting.  It is still impressive that he could look at it and map out what those 20 moves needed to be.  I’m sure it took a lot of practice.  This is where I miss Chronic Husker:  I would say he developed mastership thru practice, and he would argue it was natural ability.

Not a cheat...all Rubic's cubes are 20 moves shy of finishing.

Any Rubik's Cube can be solved in 20 moves, but it took over 30 years for anyone to figure that out

I solved Rubik's Cube by accident the first time, then I did get better with it...

I still pull it out and play with it from time to time...   And Rubik's Cube as well...
