Stephen King threatens to quit Twitter if Musk implements the 20-dollar monthly fee.

Ohhh, dear.

You know these people can't live without the soap box.  Steven would prolly pay a thousand.

What I find funny is that can still go on posting like they always did, they just won't have the blue checkmark next to their name anymore.

Some interesting info on the possible future of Twitter.

Here we go with the "decentralization is the greatest thing ever" crowd.  Of course, it never explains why decentralization is so revolutionary just that it will be.

I suppose paying to tweet would be revolutionary since it would kill the platform.

Good. The media is out there lying about how Pauli Pelosi's psycho hammer attacker is a conservative, when he's a mentally ill homeless nudist with a BLM sign and Pride flag in the bus where he lives. They'd be clamping down on anybody saying otherwise because censorship and lying while spinning fake narratives is what they do. Musk's takeover of twitter prevents them from doing so.

Sadly, the gay love interest angle likely is looking like fake news as we've read the psycho's police interview and it seems to jive mostly with Paul Pelosi's story. There's photo evidence that the back door to the house has been seriously damaged. Still, it's not just the Pelosis that refuse to show security footage, the SF police department refuses to show body cam footage as well. As I've said a few times, if the Pelosis/police don't release the video they have, people are going to believe what they want. For myself, I'm not far away from believing the Pelosi/ news media story in regards to the attack but I'm not going to give them the benefit of the doubt when I know the media is deliberately trying to mislead me about the perp's motivations.

Musk suggests charging $8 a month for Twitter verification after criticism for $19.99 plan

“$20 a month to keep my blue check?” he tweeted on Monday, followed by an expletive. “They should pay me. If that gets instituted, I’m gone like Enron.” Following up later in a reply, King wrote, “t ain’t the money, it’s the principle of the thing.”

Musk replied to King early Tuesday morning with his most explicit acknowledgment yet of the proposal to charge for account verification. “[W]e need to pay the bills somehow! Twitter cannot rely entirely on advertisers,” he said. “How about $8?”

This is gold jerry, gold!

How many people are even verified?  How is $100 a year from I'd guess 100k people(?) even matter?  So they make 1.19B in revenue instead of 1.18B. Talk about a drop in the bucket.

It does help when trying to find legit info and not people with spoof accounts.  Happens with sports news a lot when people pretend to be Schefter or Rapaport.

Agreed.  I don't think this is a good move.

They're obsessed with their blue checkmark the way Gollum was obsessed with the ring.

No clue.  But now it looks like anyone can get it for $8 a month?

Should Musk be setting up a structure that bans certain groups from having access? Like it was before against conservatives?

obviously, the media will suddenly highlight and report as major news anything controversial said by anyone on twitter going forward, to create the narrative that this only started when musk took over. controversial tweets from pre-musk will now be ignored.  the typical media bias of lies of omission.  weve all seen this tons of times.

Twitter? I never use it. Don't care.

Just find it ironic that you are so invested in fact checks now.

The White House was so embarrassed they deleted their tweet. What does that have to do with me?

You're flailing here, it's sad. I'm sorry this happened to you. :(

You didn't ask anything, you made a silly statement having no idea if it applied to me or not.

This isn't going well for you, you may want to take the next few plays off. I know this will be difficult for you since you enjoy getting the last word, no matter how dumb it is...

I am very sorry this happened to you. :(

The difference is that the added context note would've been removed by the Twitter moderators prior

I for one think it's noble of her to deprive her constituents of information because some people may type some things with which she disagrees.
