That out of the way, there are some defendants who were considered too dangerous (by a judge) to release. Most were those who actually assaulted cops. Some already had criminal records.

As for non-violent folks who are in there, surely you heard the story of Bryan Fellows, who put his feet on a Senator’s desk, smoked pot inside the Capitol, then was released… but then harassed his parole officer and ignored court orders. Yeah, he is in jail now because he is a piece of crap who can’t be bothered to fulfill the terms of his pre-trial release. 

Funny story: the inmates too dangerous to release into the community bonded in the DC jail at first, but then supporters collected $1.2 million to give to them. Well, the person distributing those funds gave it to some and not others. Now the idiots are at each other’s throats over it.

Here’s a question for you: Do you think people who assault police officers should be able to post bail and go home? Because that’s who you’re trying to elicit sympathy for.
