Death 300 Posted December 30, 2024 I met Jimmy Carter at Texas A&M. It was 1986, and he and Gerald Ford were doing a nationwide debate/speaking tour. I got assigned to cover a pre-event news conference with Carter. I sat on the front row, shook his hand and asked a question or two. I have that clipping of my story in a box somewhere. Seemed like a super-nice guy, and he was funny, taking a swipe at Reagan by saying he was confident we would defeat Grenada. I still have a six pack of unopened Billy Beer that I'd added to my beer-can collection in the 1970s. He brought a lot of class and dignity to the presidency during and afterward.
