peenie 1,930 Posted Monday at 09:00 PM Is it just me, or is food becoming unaffordable? I don't even buy red meat these days and I'm cutting down on fruits and vegetables. It's really high. I don't get out of the grocery store without spending $100. I find that I'm cutting back and not shopping as much. Anyone else feeling like food is way overpriced? zsasz 369 Posted Monday at 09:15 PM Yeah, there's been a 10+% increase in just about everything we buy since the begininng of the year. Some increases (coffee) have been because natural reasons. Others, I'm sure have been economic. Restaurants have gotten great at skimping on their product.
Horseman 2,589 Posted Monday at 09:15 PM Just got back. 18 eggs for $4.67. Two pounds of butter $7. 30 pack of PBR was on sale for $16, normally $18. No red meat though, plenty in the freezer.

jerryskids 6,923 Posted Monday at 09:53 PM Last Monday the wife and I stopped at McD's for breakfast at the start of a day trip (Petrified Forest National Park, highly recommended if you are in the NE part of our great state, or go to Flagstaff or the Grand Canyon). Haven't eaten there in at least a year. Anyway, I got two bacon egg and cheese biscuits, she got some sammich and a hash brown... $26. Da fuq?! I mean, I can afford it because I have GC money, but not too long ago that order used to be, I dunno, $10 or less?

MDC 7,587 Posted Monday at 11:22 PM It’s gotten a lot more expensive this year. My weekly grocery bill is up around $30. London broil today costs as much as strip steaks a year ago. It’s nuts.

Ron_Artest 1,724 Posted Tuesday at 10:39 AM https://www.ft.com/content/e4ed107a-f4d4-42b8-abf4-3070fe58f69f US food industry groups are pushing for exemptions from Donald Trump’s tariffs, arguing that products from fish to cucumbers cannot be affordably grown at home. The advocacy comes as the US president hit dozens of trading partners with sweeping duties this month, driving the US’s effective tariff rate to its highest level in decades in a move that threatens to reorder global trade. F#ck them. They're all greedy SOBs. This is when it started, absolutely! I feel like all businesses just started raising their prices during Covid even when they truly didn’t need to, for profit and they’ve just kept going. Who is stopping them from unscrupulous price gouging?! There is just greed running rampant and workers certainly aren’t getting paid more money. Off topic: How many billions did Pfizer get for producing and distributing the Covid vaccine? How much profit did they make? Where did the money go? Certainly not to the shareholders. I ask because I’m just wondering where is the money going with the price of everything seemingly going sky high.

But yes some of businesses’ costs did come down in 2023 & 2024 and many prices to consumers didn’t.

Hell even at Costco the other day the price on things was more expensive. Not egregiously expensive but a dollar or two here and there which stood out considering we went there at the beginning of summer and when we went back at the end the stuff was slightly more expensive.
