MDC 7,881 Posted September 21, 2016 Repertory theater playing one of my favorite older movies on the big screen and I'm having trouble finding anyone to go, partly cause it starts at 11 PM and everybody I know is now old like me. On te other hand thi is probably my only chance to see it in theaters and my wife said go right ahead. Have you / would you ever go to the movies by yourself? giraldi02 476 Posted September 21, 2016 I have before. I think this is one of the most overplayed criticisms ever tbh. I don't talk to someone I go to a movie with. I'm looking at the movie screen the entire time, and if I want to get an immediate reaction afterwards I can use the interwebs.
MDC 7,881 Posted September 21, 2016 I haven't.....but I see nothing wrong with it at all if I really wanted to. Okay. This won't mean anything to people here but they're playing a remastered version of Phantasm (1979), it's one of my favorite movies and I'm sure I will never get a chance to see it again. Strike 6,018 Posted September 21, 2016 When i was laid off about 12 years ago, it was the first significant time off I'd had since joining the full time work force. So I didn't even look for a job for about 6 months. It was awesome. And I'd go to matinees about once every other week. It was cheaper and the theater was almost empty. I really enjoyed it. Nothing wrong with going by yourself. Why deprive yourself of a film you'd like to see just because no one else wants to go?
tanatastic 2,062 Posted September 21, 2016 Yep I have been lately because my wife doesnt watch action/fun/hero/cool movies and friends all have kids or work when I want to go.
kutulu 1,703 Posted September 21, 2016 Yeah, when I was little there was a theatre in a strip mall nearby. Was one dollar for a movie for years. If none of my friends were around I'd go all the time Grown up just went a couple times...if it was something I really wanted to see

wiffleball 4,797 Posted September 21, 2016 Sure. But I know several people who absolutely wouldn't dare. To me, that just shows an incredible level of insecurity and immaturity. Literally, if you peer into their thought process, it's like this: "OMG, Everybody will be staring at me and thinking I'm a loser!" No, actually, nobody gives a chit. But even if someone does think that? You're never going to see them again, so WTF do you care? Hell, I know people who if they have to travel for bizness on their own, will literally bring a cereal box with them and order milk and a bowl and spoon from room service - just because the thought of eating alone in public absolutely terrfies them. To me, this is an integral part of being an adult. If you can't walk into a bar, theatre, restaurant, - whatever - without a gaggle of friends to support you and make you feel like you're with the "in" crowd, you're a child. I can sort of understand the thinking with women, it's different somewhat. It's damn near impossible for them to go have a glass of wine and read a book without some (or several) chucklehead trying to make small talk. And if the woman doesn't give this guy his much needed attention? ! LESBIAN! STUCK UP! But a guy ought to be able to do this kind of thing on his own without giving it a second thought. My brother is one of them. He's almost sixty years old and has never gone out to one of these type of places on his own. Hell, the guy would have to bring a date to his wife's funeral.

That was the first movie that scarred the sh!t out of me as a kid. I remember watching it by myself on HBO when we first got cable in the early 80's. I would definitely go see that, even if I had to go by myself.
fandandy 3,313 Posted September 21, 2016 I haven't but I would. Just don't go the day after Halloween to some random childrens movie and attempt to give away the rest of your candy. I have more, but it's in my van.

Reality 3,121 Posted September 21, 2016 The opportunity doesn't present itself very often but, I think I actually prefer it.. Will occasionally catch a movie when traveling for work. My wife and son ask way too many questions, like I've already seen the movie or some fkn sh!t..

Djgb13 2,339 Posted September 21, 2016 Yep sure have. When I lived in San Antonio there was a theater called the Alamo Drafthouse where you can get beer and food while you watch a movie. Working shift work sometimes my friends wouldn't have the same days off as me. So if I was bored I'd go have lunch there and watch a movie.

I do like the strict rules of no talking and cell phones, but the seats aren't that comfortable, at least at the one near me...

It was on the north side of San Antonio where the rich folk and Spurs players live. There was a sh1tty one too on the SW side near Lackland. It wasn't bad but nowhere near as good as the other one

CantTouchThis 23 Posted September 21, 2016 Weird thing is I've never done it, but every time I do, I always think, "There is really no point to someone else being there." Especially if it's a good movie that I actually want to watch. Now if it's dumb comedy that I just wanna get baked and laugh my balls off for, then other people in the same state always helps. IGotWorms 4,063 Posted September 21, 2016 Only once that I can recall. Was some time ago. I was traveling and needed to kill some time while a friend of mine I was meeting up with got off work. I saw The Ring. It was the middle of the day and there was no one else the movie theatre. It was actually kinda scary
rholio 339 Posted September 21, 2016 Never have, but rarely go to the theater... used to go once or twice a decade. Haven't been there since... hmm. That first Star Wars prequel with Goofy in it.

No screenings in Louisiana from what I could see though.

tanatastic 2,062 Posted September 21, 2016 ??? They obnoxiously yell at the screen and talk loudly with no regard for manners or common courtesy in theaters. Or so the age old stereotype goes, I have never seen it in action myself.
