So the common thinking will be that Nikki Haley and Tim Scott are essentially putting themselves into position to be chosen as VPOTUS candidates for either Trump or DeSantis. This is where Trump would be making a huge mistake to pick either, or the "safe choice" in Ben Carson. The only real choice for him is Kari Lake. Trump is already hated, so if you are already hated, there's no point in attempting to appeal to any form of "equity" in VPOTUS. Lake is being stonewalled in the MSM exactly for the reason that she's incredible in front of the camera. She is 100 percent lethal once you give her any kind of spotlight whatsoever. With a national platform like the 2024 general election, she can basically eviscerate anyone Team Blue sends up to oppose her. It's difficult to see Trump losing the nomination, but a year is a LONG TIME from now. The current polling favors Trump, but those numbers ignore that Conservatives and/or Republicans at large aren't talking to pollsters period. Or their personal politics in public at all. It's too risky to be "cancelled" DeSantis can still win the nomination here. You can agree or disagree with his choices, but he's "dynamic", he chose to actually build a true policy record beyond just sound clips and hot takes. Haley simply has more powerful and far reaching donors on her side, along with a nice overall balance, to effectively pick Tim Scott as a running mate. DeSantis has to cut a deal with Mike Pence, who has the White Evangelical voter block more on his side. Pence knows he can't be VPOTUS to anyone anymore. He's running for the money, pure and simple. But DeSantis can offer him a high level post in exchange for his endorsement. He also needs Kellyanne Conway but she won't enter this fray at this point. Ronna McDaniel of RNC HQ does not favor Scott. She favors Wesley Hunt, but he's still too raw and doesn't have enough of a platform to carry half the ticket. Trump is not in a great position. If he wins the RNC ticket, he likely won't win the 2024 general election. He needs Haley's donors and her Teflon optics, but he also needs Lake's media savvy to carry the long term narrative when his funding chokes out. If DeSantis can't pull this out, the only hope is RFK Jr. Because like it or not, if it's four more years of Biden, then @JustinCharge is right that our foreign policy positions are extremely vulnerable right now.
