What does this portion have to do with equal rights for gays? 

The law isn't saying that it's OK, it's saying the judge has discretion on adding the offender on the list when it's gay sex.

It was already that way for straight sex.  This law doesn't touch that.

Personally I think 10 years is too much, I'd go maybe 3, but it's not this law that TNG brought up.  It's an older law.

Any group where adults are entrusted with the care of children can attract pedos to their ranks.  
 

Boy Scouts, churches, summer camps, schools, day cares, youth sports,  etc.   

Most use background checks and best practices to reduce the risks now.  But those should have been in place long ago.  

This is why the the library dong display is shocking to me.

Probably true, there are a lot of kids in the martial arts, and respect for instructors is much higher than most other sports, so they’ll do whatever you say.  Anecdotally, I’ve had two known pedos associated with my kids’ lives, one was a grade school teacher, the other an instructor at our TKD studio.  Interesting sicko the instructor, he was in his late 20s maybe and targeted tween girls, seems like an odd fetish.  One such victim was the daughter of two of our best friends.  Luckily it was discovered via texts, before anything physical happened.  Also he left before us adult black belts could have a “got a minute” talk with him.

For reasons I don’t recall, there was difficulty prosecuting him at the time.  Pervs being pervs though, he showed up at a different studio and they caught him for his behavior there.
