I propose we try to get to know our fellow geeks a little better

Recommended Posts

Part I - where were you born, where did you grow up?

Since some of us are creepers I don't think you have to be specific and would probably encourage you to be vague rather than super detailed.

There's a lot of time here spent arguing and bickering over dumb stuff and l bet we all have a lot more in common with others than we think.   Probably even some posters we would least expect.

Many of you know where I'm from.   I was born and raised in the same place I live now.   I've actually lived in this city for all 45 years of my life outside of a year spent in a college dorm.   I can trace back about 5 generations of family who would be considered local.

I would consider us neither rural or urban.   Town is just under 80k, supported by a lot of rural agriculture in neighboring communities and Kansas City being right at an hour drive straight down the interstate. Our city has always had a very strong manufacturing base, with companies like Mead Tablet, Quaker Oats, Seitz meat packing, etc with a strong blue collar workforce.  Still have lots of manufacturing driving the local economy.

Historically the community had tremendous wealth generating from the 1800s.  An old river town, this was one of the last metropolitan stops before families ventured out to settle the western frontier.   At one time our city had the most millionaires per capita in the world and I think was actually the third city in the country to have an electric trolley system.

Lots of history and I'd be happy to show you around if you're ever in the area.  :)

Uh, don't certain geeks stalk other geeks for personal info they've posted and try to use it to make fun of them or try to embarrass them because said geeks are insecure, beta homos?

The answer is yes btw.

Make sure include your mother's maiden name, name of your first pet, and the last four digits of your SSN.

Born in Texas - yeehaw!  Family moved to Upstate NY when I was 4 so I don't sound like a redneck.

Got a job post-college in my hometown.  Changed jobs and moved to Seattle area back in 1995.  I've now been out here longer than back home.

I was born and raised down in Alabama, on a farm way back in the woods.
I was so ragged that folks  used to call me Patches, and Poppa used to tease me about it too.
‘Cause deep down inside he was hurt

‘Cause he did all that he could

I invented the question mark at birth when the doctor didn’t slap my ass and instead shoved his middle finger up my virgin little black netherworld. I moved to The Big Sleazy where I found goddesses and full born alcoholism combined with the ability to forgive and forget. There may be…

Born in Berkeley, CA.   Not proud of it, but I obviously had no choice.

Still live in Northern California. I'm ok with that for now I suppose.  At least I get to talk to some of you faggots without having to worry about your bedtimes.  (Hence you, 5-Points)

On the day I was born
The nurses all gathered 'round
And they gazed in wide wonder
At the joy they had found
The head nurse spoke up
Said, "Leave this one alone"
She could tell right away
That I was bad to the bone

Grew up in the white trash suburbs just north of 8 Mile in Detroit, same age and location as Eminem and Kid Rock although I knew neither. Went in the Army and was stationed in Germany and Ft. Hood, Texas. Ran around the desert in a tanker unit in 1991 during the Gulf War. Then back to Detroit until the late 90s with two years in St. Louis ruining my life during the Rams Super Bowl / Mark McGwire homerun/ Red Wings Stanley Cup era. Returned to Detroit briefly deeply depressed. Then off to China in December 2001until December 2022 and should still be there except the government destroyed the private education system and with it, the school I'd built with my wife. The back to Detroit briefly through 2023 again rebuilding my life.

Finally the Florida teacher certification came through but for months I couldn't get hired because the need for social studies teachers is non-existent in this state, next to zero interest. When I realized this, I switched up and got certified in math. It was night and day, everything clicked. Emails and phone calls actually got returned, headhunters showed up, I got hired immediately two days after passing the math certification test. I didn't really even get interviewed for this job. The principal's first phone call reaching out to me came with a job offer and I took it immediatly. turned down many job offers. I've been teaching 8th grade math in the Florida panhandle for three weeks.

Do the word problems involve potential profits from breaking down ounces into 8-balls and grams?  Do you teach them how to calculate good time on a jail sentence?

Very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year-old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet.

My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes, he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament.

My childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring, we’d make meat helmets.

When I was insolent, I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds – pretty standard, really. At the age of twelve, I received my first scribe.

At the age of fourteen, a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. At the age of 18, I went off to evil medical school. At the age of 25, I took up tap dancing. I wanted to be a quadruple threat — an actor, dancer…
