Would you kill a mass murderer when they were a child?

This ahole in Vegas got me wondering about crossing paths with someone before they committed their crimes and would you be able to just kill them. The overwhelming majority of us would probably say 'Yes' to that. However, I thought if you had to go back in time to when they were a kid (8-10 years old) would you be able to off them then knowing the crimes they would commit in the future?

 

I personally don't think I could.

Why is this mentality even a question? No, you don't go back in time and kill him. If you could do that, you could go back and mentor him and shape his life so that he turns out to be a person that is happy and content in life and is unwilling and uninterested in hating and hurting others.

 

That's the twist. You have to do something that could be construed evil at the time i.e. 'someone killed this kid' to save many more lives in the future. Some would never believe that kid would later grow up and kill so many people.

Imagine going back in time and giving kid Jesus a wedgie. If time travel is ever possible that would be a neat story to be able to tell. I gave the son of God a wedgie.

As a result of the atrocity of her rape detention and murder, laws were passed in dozens of States closing huge loopholes on sexual predators on probation. So, the question is, do you save her only the c500 little girls suffer the same or Worse fate later? Or do you let her go through what she went through to spare 500 other little girls from having to do the same?

this reminds me of the movie Minority Report with Tom Cruise. Not in the sense that it had anything to do with killing (or arresting in the case of the movie) children who were going to committ crimes much later on but the basis of the movie was people being arrested and locked away before they were able to committ murder based on some weird telepathic system that could tell police about crimes that were about to happen before they actually did.

 

and my answer is no because if I came across a kid who was 10 years old and someone told me they were going to committ a horrible crime like mass murder when they were in the 60's or however old, even if I believed that person, I also believe strongly in nurture over nature for many aspects of life. Rather than kill a child, I would make an attempt to lead them on a better path. Im not sure how as I havnt put THAT much thought into it but I imagine that it could only take 2 or 3 life events to go differently to completely change a person. Maybe this child gets strongly bullied or winds up in an abusive relationship (physical or verbal) or any other thing you can think of that doesn't obviously excuse mass murder but is a trigger event for the person they wind up becoming mentally. If you can change a couple of those life events, you may change that persons whole outlook on life and their ability to commit such a terrible act.

 

In fact, by killing said child, you can't even prove that you might not be creating a murderer in someone else who winds up being terribly impacted by the childs death.
