The cities/ states need to take the lead. They are the ones who can call out the national guard to address unrest and riots. If the Feds moved in to early, all hell would break out.

I do think the president needs to address the nation on television. Not twitter, but television.

Nothing wrong with a 12 gauge. I'm old school, I have a Remington 870. Not MY go-to for home defense but it's there for my Wife if I'm not home. It's simple to operate and she's able to use it effectively. And really, that's all that matters.

So apparently they upped the charge to 2nd Degree Murder now and the other three with Aiding and Abetting.  Couple thoughts:

1.  I'm not totally against the 2nd degree charge per se, just that it is now harder to prove than Manslaughter.  You now have to prove intent, whole other can of worms in a court of law.  The WORST thing that can happen is Minnesota overcharge on this case due to public pressure and thus make it more difficult to get a conviction based on the law itself, opposed to sheer emotion. 

2.  Not sure what the Aiding and Abetting charge brings with it?  If its tied to if there was intent, then man, that's gonna be tough to prove.  I do think they should have stepped in and stopped the one cop, but I genuinely do not think they were just there to kill a man.  i.e. intent.

In a nutshell, based on the video I saw the 3rd Degree Murder charge was appropriate and could have been fairly easy to prove in a court of law.  Now they just made it harder on themselves.  Could be for negotiating purposes / plead deals.  Will be interesting.

I would assume that 3rd is still a lesser included offense, and the jury basically has the option to convict on either.

It also gives him an option to plead down and avoid the spectacle of a public trial, which will doubtless bring a volitile circus to the city. This is probably what they hope happens.

The easy way would just be to put him in Gen pop and let them sort it out.

Since the police are de-funded, I guess Trump is free to declare martial law and move the military in.

I still think the cop is culpable and should be held accountable, Floyd was begging for his life and this azzhole just keeled there (fock that guy), but this will come up in the trial.  You better believe this comes up from the defense.  Drugs (fentanly for goodness sake), heart disease, plus Covid-19 positive.  No way they get a Murder 2.  This was a perfect storm that came together.  An Azzhole, over physical cop meets big azz dude bout to die anyway.
