Stampede at goat focker's funeral leaves 32 dead

At least 32 people died in a stampede at a funeral procession for Maj. Gen. Qassem Soleimani, as Iranian authorities struggled to manage the large crowds rallying against the U.S.’s targeted killing of the powerful military leader.

Another 190 people were injured in the panicked crowd in Iran’s Kerman province, where Gen. Soleimani was set to be buried Tuesday, according to Iranian state television.

🤣

Latest update to that article:

At least 40 people died and more than 200 were injured

Maybe this could be a tactic the republicans can use in their 2020 presidential campaign against the unhinged left in this country. Hmmm...

With every Iranian or Iraqi death, the world becomes a better place......

They'll just make more. To really make a difference, you'd need Ghengis Khan to come through again. I'd send Vladimir Putin some oil yield projections, and some maps and cross my fingers.

I hope any Americans attending the funeral made it back safely to the Iowa campaign trail.

I seem to recall hearing about folks getting trampled during the yearly pilgrimage to Mecca.  What is it about these people not being able to walk in groups without crushing one another?  It's not like they're trying to get GA seats for the Who. :dunno:

I wonder what Rose McGowan thinks about this?

A pretty solid article by NYT's columnist Thomas Friedman.     Yes, the New York Times and Tom Friedman.     Every once and a while he wakes up from the "you must hate the current president and anything he does" gas that the NYTs pumps thru the HVAC system at their HQ and sees things clearly.   He is very knowledgeable about the ME and I have read some of his books.    A good take that I have heard from other people.   But coming from him really reinforces this point.

Well, I hope Thomas Friedman's article is true; that Suleimani was a disaster and that the Iranian people will thank Trump in the future.

No streets in Libya are named after Obama.

Why did you emphasize the author's last name?

Same reason some Geeks always used Obungler’s middle name?

Because the author, imo, is likely Jewish and may be sympathetic to the plight of Israel and side with any U. S. military strikes against Iran, a historic Israel foe.

I hoped that was clear with the bolded last name.

And you are correct. He’s a Neo-con, through and through. Israel is the motive for everything they say.

He may very well be a Democrat but still want the United States to aggressively back Israel.

Trump seems to be good at picking Democrats away from years of loyalty.

My great uncle (old as a dinosaur) said he voted for Trump. I was like, "Whaaaat??"

He said the presidency is a man's job. (He was not voting for Hillary Clinton.)

If that statement were true, then why do so many Jewish people vote Democrat?

Your average Jew is not 100% behind Israel anymore and certainly not "aggressively".  He may be, but can no longet be assumed.

Iran's firing missiles at a US base.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/07/world/middleeast/trump-iran.html

Quote

Iran has begun an attack on the United States with missiles fired at an American base in western Iraq, Iranian official news media said early Wednesday.

“The fierce revenge by the Revolutionary Guards has begun,” Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said in a statement on a Telegram channel.

There’s video showing that some missiles landed. Not sure on the details of the exact location. Can’t understand the language in the video.

I have some coworkers that are currently at Al Assad. Sounds like they're bunkered down and safe.

Thank god I commute to work and can walk if things get really bad.

I hope our military men are safe. This is exactly what I was afraid of....

I hadn't seen that yet only the reports of them being shot but nothing landing.

Well that makes things worse
