Florida- sunshine and a great Governor.

Anywhere else down south and Texas. I can’t believe I’m saying that. 10 years ago I would have never said that. I’m stuck anyway.

I would need to think longer to give thr best answer but off the top of my head in no order

Montana

Maine

Colorado

Idaho

Wyoming

Florida and Texas are probably on the list but I would rather not go down south.  Scenic, country, beautiful, mostly conservative population states are the theme.   Colorado is the outlier a tad.

I thought about the Dakotas.   I am sure the further west you go the more elevation.  I have never been but I havr been to Minnesota and it is so flat there.  It is like a colder Kansas.   Flat terrain is boring to me.  I went to Minnesota once and it was dead flat, no snow, and 5 below.  How boring.

I think the Carolinas. Montana. Texas. I would say Colorado. But not now. So probably Northwest Wyoming.

South Dakota is particularly beautiful.  Mountainous on the west  side,  rolling prairie on the east/center and the Badlands in between.

Wife and I are looking at moving probably in the next couple of years. Figured id look at a few states to get a rough idea and maybe travel to some of them to see if we like it. Found that you could buy over 300 acres in Montana for just $200K. With that much land you could put a TON of cheap “glamp” sites for airbnbs and make a dang fortune or just build you a $200K home on it have that much land for with a house for only $400K

Wife and I will figure that out in 6-7 years or so. Thinking Carolina’s or further south.  Would never go to California or Colorado. I like Mn/Wi  in the summer and fall. Will probably keep a camper here on a permanent site. Somewhere near my kids.

We will probably always have a place here in Iowa but for the winter months right now we are leaning towards:

Ana Maria Island Florida

Either Sedona or Surprise Arizona

there’s a number of smaller towns along the Carolina coast we have some interest in. Non-touristy.

Definitely want something that’s a direct flight and fairly near an airport for the kids once youve all impregnated them to come visit. Right now Anna Maria is by far the leader in the clubhouse.

If you want to live in South East montana you can buy 300 acres for that much, but I am not sure you know what that area looks like or the amenities around there. I do not think you will get many ABNB customers there.

I say that as someone who has spent years living where walmart was an hour away and stores like home depot were 2 hours away.

We love Anna Maria Island. I thought I’d want a place there for the winter, but it seems to be mostly rental houses. I have another 15-20 years before I pull the trigger anyway.

Yeah no way that’s anywhere decent in Montana. The good land is pretty expensive

Oh I know. Like I said, I want to actually see some of these states cause we might move to them. No way I’d buy anything without looking at not only the property but also the surrounding area. I was just giving an example of something i happened to find while browsing. Plus, even if it’s like hours away from grocery stores you could always just build those glamp sites for people to rent out. Young ppl love getting away to the middle of nowhere to “rough it” so to speak

Yeah I think we’re somewhere around 15 years so just starting to kind of look and see what we like. It certainly checked a lot of boxes for us. They have a noise ordinance, there are no hotels on the island. We kind of like the small town feel of it while still being a popular place if we want it to be. Nice little cafés and diners. Beaches are phenomenal. It’s all white people. You know all the things you want

I find it funny, but to be fair all 75 people who live in the state do like it.

Arizona ( wherever it's not too hot or cold )

Colorado ( the place is magical )

Texas ( Go Cowboys! )

Florida ( DeSantis / Bikinis / Sunshine / Ocean / will remind me of my Childhood )

California ( the prettiest, most geologically diverse state in America, although the politics are insane )

Wisconsin

South Carolina

Tennessee

Missouri

Arkansas

If I'm not going to live in Iowa then I want to be somewhere closer to great fishing areas that are warmer year round.  The exception would be Wisconsin.

I am actively applying for jobs in southern CO/northern new mexico, although the general lack of people/jobs in that specific area of the country will make this a long, difficult job search. My wife wants to move closer to her parents who live in El Paso. It would also put me closer to my family who lives in south Denver suburbs and close to her brother who does live in Albuquerque.

The problem with applying for jobs in New Mexico is with young kids you have to be careful of both bad school districts and crime. This is something that is not much of a problem in many of the other western states mentioned in this thread like Montana or Wyoming, although they both have cities that are exceptions like Browning or Riverton, respectfully.

As for Hawkeye's point, new mexico is warmer than Iowa and you have some excellent hunting and fishing.

I lived in Albuquerque for 3 years. Loved it. I didn't have to look into schools for kids though. If I can remember correctly, I lived at about the area of Eubank and Acadamy. I forget what directional quadrant that is. But pretty close to the Sandia mountains.

I have always been drawn to go back some day. But since, it's only been a couple visits since. My girlfriend really loved Santa Fe.

I'll take homes in:

Florida - greatest state currently.
Nevada -Vegas
Colorado - mountains, skiing, etc.
Hawaii - If I got that much $, I can ignore the idiots running the state.
Ohio - since I'm from there.

Still trying to thread the needle on a nice warm red state that has legal weed.  Which one fits that?
