kilroy69 1,218 Posted October 30, 2023 I just got the news. I have known him for 37 years. He had a lot of ups and downs. Was a pretty bad alcoholic but was functional. We tried many times to get him help but it never worked. He went back to the bottle as soon as he could. I am 47 and I see people dying or possibly dying all around me. This is the 4th person I know that killed themselves. Getting old is not for the weak man.

But since then it's been more and more every year it seems. So yeah, it sucks getting old.

Fnord 2,063 Posted October 30, 2023 That sucks, sorry to hear. Agree about the getting old part. I haven't lost any close friends my age yet, but have gone through divorces, heart surgeries, joint replacements, addiction, cirrhosis, and deceased spouses and kids with them. Getting old ain't for the faint of heart, but it beats the alternative. Theoretically, anyway.
TheNewGirl 1,377 Posted October 30, 2023 I am so sorry Kilroy. I am turning 47 in a week or so, and I hear ya. Recently had a cousin take his life (he was mid 30s) and hearing that news broke my heart. We weren't super close over the years, but had recently reconnected and talked a lot about things we both loved; outdoors, hiking, karaoke. He was gone about a week or so later. Getting older sucks...but watching my parents age is hard too. We think we are getting older, but forget that they've been aging too.

BunnysBastatrds 2,324 Posted October 30, 2023 Sorry my brother. I lost three friends in the past three years. All alcohol related. One died whilst completely drunk and taking vicadins like candy. They found JH at the bottom of the stairs a week later from a fall and broken neck.My friend Frank was standing in line at an Exon gas station buying a sixer. Dropped dead of a heart attack. They found half an 8- ball in his truck. His brother Rick was found dead in his sleep. His father passed a year before and he couldn’t handle the stress of dealing with the stress. Autopsy showed his BAL was .6.0 and he had Zanax in him. As I write this, my best friend Rocket that I’ve known for almost fifty years has cirrhosis of the liver. He’ll be passing soon. All four drank themselves to death. Don’t want to jinx myself, but……
Voltaire 5,207 Posted October 30, 2023 My condolences, Kilroy.. Lots of stories from other posters but not me. I've been lucky in this. Death among even my parents generation, let alone close friends, is something that I've been able to avoid. The closest I have is a former very close friend who I'd lost contact with that snapped and murdered his family eight years ago, I posted about it at the time.

After being in very minimal medication for 10 years for it. Finally got it somewhat calmed down with a pile of different meds, but still flares up. All happened a few months after the jabs.... Alcohol and loneliness played a big part for both of them, I still can't get over my cousins and wish he talked to me about what he was going through. Gepetto 1,298 Posted October 31, 2023 Sorry about your friend. I just turned 50 a couple of weeks ago. Hope not to hear about this type of loss again. mmmmm...beer - my Aunt got Covid when it first started going around. She's in her 60s and developed high blood pressure after that. She also got the Covid vaccine a month or two after having gotten Covid so her high bp could be from the shot. She had never had high bp her entire life until then.

kilroy69 1,218 Posted October 31, 2023 Thanks for all the kind words. It just seems crazy to me. I mentioned that I have known 4 people that have killed themselves. ALL of them had kids. One of them was an ex that shot herself in a park and ride. That was the one that focked me up most and I still have trauma from. She literally stopped by for a bang 3 days before she did it. It was one of the few times in my life I was left really truly shocked. To the point I still send her facebook messages sometimes. It left a lasting scar on my psyche. I have a 9 year old son and I can not imagine leaving him with that same scar.
