https://www.yahoo.com/news/biden-establish-national-monument-honoring-002518961.html WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden will establish a national monument honoring Emmett Till, the black teenager from Chicago who was abducted, tortured and killed in 1955 after he was accused of whistling at a white woman in Mississippi, and his mother, a White House official said Saturday. Biden will sign a proclamation on Tuesday to create the Emmett Till and Mamie Till-Mobley National Monument across three sites in Illinois and Mississippi, according to the official. The individual spoke on condition of anonymity because the White House had not formally announced the president's plans. Tuesday is the anniversary of Emmett Till's birth in 1941. The monument will protect places that are central to the story of Till's life and death at age 14, the acquittal of his white killers and his mother's activism. Till's mother's insistence on an open casket to show the world how her son had been brutalized and Jet's magazine's decision to publish photos of his mutilated body helped galvanize the Civil Rights Movement. Biden's decision also comes at a fraught time in the United States over matters concerning race. Conservative leaders are pushing back against the teaching of slavery and black history in public schools, as well as the incorporation of diversity, equity and inclusion programs from college classrooms to corporate boardrooms. On Friday, Vice President Kamala Harris criticized a revised black history curriculum in Florida that includes teaching that enslaved people benefited from the skills they learned at the hands of the people who denied them freedom. The Florida Board of Education approved the curriculum to satisfy legislation signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican presidential candidate who has accused public schools of liberal indoctrination. “How is it that anyone could suggest that in the midst of these atrocities that there was any benefit to being subjected to this level of dehumanization?” Harris asked in a speech delivered from Jacksonville, Florida. DeSantis said he had no role in devising his state’s new education standards but defended the components on how enslaved people benefited. “All of that is rooted in whatever is factual,” he said in response. The monument to Till and his mother will include three sites in the two states. The Illinois site is Roberts Temple Church of God in Christ in Bronzeville, a historically black neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side. Thousands of people gathered at the church to mourn Emmett Till in September 1955. The Mississippi locations are Graball Landing, believed to be where Till’s mutilated body was pulled from the Tallahatchie River, and the Tallahatchie County Second District Courthouse in Sumner, Mississippi, where Till’s killers were tried and acquitted by an all-white jury. Till was visiting relatives in Mississippi when Carolyn Bryant Donham said the 14-year-old Till whistled and made sexual advances at her while she worked in a store in the small community of Money. Till was later abducted and his body eventually pulled from the Tallahatchie River, where he had been tossed after he was shot and weighted down with a cotton gin fan. Two white men, Roy Bryant and his half-brother J.W. Milam, were tried on murder charges about a month after Till was killed, but an all-white Mississippi jury acquitted them. Months later, they confessed to killing Till in a paid interview with Look magazine. Bryant was married to Donham in 1955. She died earlier this year. The monument will be the fourth Biden has created since taking office in 2021, and just his latest tribute to the younger Till. For black History Month this year, Biden hosted a screening of the movie “Till,” a drama about his lynching. In March 2022, Biden signed the Emmett Till Anti-Lynching Act into law. Congress had first considered such legislation more than 120 years ago. The Justice Department announced in December 2021 that it was closing its investigation into Till's killing.

No I’m a “free thinker.” I am a little sad it seems I wasn’t able to change many minds in here, but when I first started posting in the GC I didn’t realize the extent of the groupthink that is present. It’s a little scary TBH. But I do/did enjoy proving you all (especially you) wrong so often in this thread though.

Leftist elitists don't like local police. Leftist elitists love to militarized federal agencies where agencies, even like NIH are. big purchasers of AR-15 style weapons. The militarization of federal agencies is one of those issues that is not on anyone's radar but should be. Local authorities like the Sheriff are directly answerable to the people and can be given oversight both locally and at the fed level. This is a nice check and balance keeping the local authorizes in check with all the rules and Constitution. There are so many Sherriffs that it is difficult for the elites to keep them on puppet strings. Federal agencies within the executive branch are so much better for the elites. They can refuse to answer Congressional questions and can operate largely in a cloak of secrecy claiming security classifications or claiming they can't discuss pending investigations. Even the smartest best-inform president is only one man, he can not possibly execute the job as president and offer any real oversight to the millions of employees in the numerous agencies of the executive branch. Therefore we have a ton of executive branches with tons of descemretionary power and virtual zero checks and balances. The elites love this. They get guys in leadership in these agencies and they can pillage funding and abuse the rights of citizens by spying on them or strong-arm enforcement of the millions upon millions of federal regulations. Our current government is largely rogue controlled by the establishment elites and operate like a cartel and not a Constitutional government.

https://www.newsweek.com/conservatives-have-new-way-avoiding-woke-companies-1814653 A new app officially launched this week that's designed to help shoppers know what values a brand promotes or supports before buying a product. The app, Veebs, was quickly embraced by conservatives, thanks in part to Veebs spokeswoman Bri Teresi promoting the app on her social media accounts. Teresi— a model and social media influencer—made headlines in April when she shared a video online of her shooting cases of Bud Light in protest of the beer brand having a branded partnership with transgender influencer and activist Dylan Mulvaney. However, Veebs CEO and co-founder Chris Rhodes told Newsweek on Friday that the app is not just for right-wing users but people of all political persuasions. "Yes, we've seen the app called the 'anti-woke' app, but it is true that it is actually set up to help empower left-leaning consumers as well," Rhodes said. Veebs users simply need to open the app—which can be downloaded on iOS or Android devices—the next time they're at a store and scan the barcode of a product they are interested in buying. The app will then provide a score from 1 to 100 for the brand and parent company based on what's called "values packs" that the consumers set up on Veebs. The values pack options not only includes "Liberal" and "Conservative," but also "Climate Emergency," "LGBTQIA+," "America First," "Support Veterans" and "Social Justice." Users must select at least one of these options, but can choose up to three. "If the consumer doesn't like the value score, Veebs also offers some alternatives from other brands and companies that might fit them better," Rhodes said. The CEO described the scoring system for products as being based on publicly available information—such as documents filed by companies to regulators or agencies—though he added some of these items are "often hard to find." He also noted that Veebs will be constantly updating its scores to "keep current as companies make various decisions that create new data inputs." "The point is we do all this so that the customer doesn't have to," Rhodes said. Veebs was founded two years ago and had a soft launch six months ago before an official start this week, according to Rhodes. He also said the company is self-funded and thus remains independent of any of the companies it scores. The idea for the app came together after the founders noticed companies seemingly taking sides on political issues. As this became increasingly more common, Rhodes said "there wasn't enough information easily accessible for people to make consistent choices and purchases aligned with what they think is important." Following the app's pubic launch, it was soon being praised by conservatives on social media, resulting in some news outlets to falsely label Veebs as an "anti-woke" app. Rhodes said much of this response from conservatives could be "because that's where the most energy is right now for this type of solution." "Conservatives increasingly feel like they don't have a voice, so more of them are making purchasing decisions to express their opinions," he said. Rhodes conceded that having Teresi as a spokeswoman also helped. "She is extremely thoughtful, intelligent, and she immediately recognized that Veebs could offer something to her social media followers that she knew they wanted," he said. "Having that kind of spokesperson has turbocharged our uptake..." Given that Veebs just launched, the company does have designs to eventually hire a liberal spokesperson, as well as to partner with an influencer who represents more centrist or non-partisan views. Rhodes said that even though much of the news today that involves products and politics usually includes calls of boycotts, he believes that most people don't really want to punish companies. "Consumers in this day and age want to find companies that align to their values and reward them. This is 'values based shopping.' This is the movement," he said.

This isnt regular rules. 6 points for all TD's gives a huge advantage to the QB's who get a lot of them. look at the projected dropoff from Mahomes to Burrow who is the #3 ranked QB. 60 fantasy points. I have to assume that Mahomes and Allen both go in the same round (likely round 2) and burrow goes in round 3. if this comes to pass, thats a minimum 4 fantasy point advantage every single game you play against any opposing QB not namedJosh Allen and larger than that for most. thats huge. if you play the usual Weepaws strategy and draft the 12th ranked QB on the board (fields) you are looking at over 200 fantasy points you need to make up over the course of the season in the rest of your lineup. Its possible you nail every single pick and still dont make that up when playing with this scoring system. thats almost 10 fantasy points per game you are giving up and have to make up elsewhere in your lineup. with normal scoring(4 point for throwing TD) that number shrinks almost by half. winning with your normal strategy is not impossible but I dont think thats a winning strategy for these rules. with the 4 point TD, that gap is a lot narrower and your strategy is viable if you draft well elsewhere. in this format I'd say you are putting yourself behind the 8 ball if you play it this way. I wouldnt even be totally surprised to see Mahomes and Allen go in round 1 because of how large the dropoff is to Burrow at 3.

There is nobody who would not care about this if it were true. Those of us who disagree with you simply don’t believe that it’s true. And that’s because the “evidence” that’s been offered to prove it is flimsy, shady, inconclusive, and ultimately unreliable.
