edsr will not be down for breakfast

Recommended Posts

My buddy Howie Carr used to say that when someone died.

After a 6 month stint in the hospital, he finally gave up and stopped eating/drinking.  Was tired of laying in a bed. 74 years.

I saw him yesterday around 2 pm, he died around 3 am this morning. He was miserable and I knew he wanted out.

I wasn't sure I wanted to even share this, but here it is. I think I've made enough "friends" here that might want to know.

Feel free to joke, say whatever you need to. You know me, laughter is the best medicine.

Sorry to hear, man.  Six months in the hospital, that had to suck for him. Thoughts to you and your family.

Sorry to hear Ed.  Do some coke and Asian hookers in his honor?  Hell, just do coke and Asian hookers.   Who needs a reason?

Definitely not me. I have to be up and go to the funeral home at 10. I will save it for tomorrow night?

What? Ed doesn't rate some prayers to go with those thoughts?

Sorry for your loss edjr. Hope the last few years were good ones.

I said something similar (thoughts, not prayers).  IIRC Ed isn't the biggest fan of religion, so I thought I'd skip that part.  :dunno:

Just come back tomorrow and take care of it. It’s not like you have anything better to do.

so sorry.  Losing a father or mother is tough.  makes you think of your own mortality.

Heard somewhere that a man doesn't really become a man until his father passes away. As I've learned, there's a lot of Truth to that.

Then I have been a man since 16 years old.
I’ve never heard that though.

Sorry Ed.  It is rough and you have my sympathies.  I just went through the same with my father (84) a couple weeks ago.   He got lung cancer 8 years ago and they got it out with surgery.  Lately heart problems and COPD were getting to him.  Then they said the cancer was back.  He elected to go into hospice and died 2 weeks later.  We watched his Notre Dame beat USC on October 14th and he was gone the next morning.  He kept asking when he would go and like your Father he was ready.  I was in PA the last seven weeks visiting then helping my Mother out.  I go home 4 or 5 times a year and got about a month of quality time with him in the end.  I hope you did with yours too.
