edjr 6,580 Posted November 3, 2023 My buddy Howie Carr used to say that when someone died. After a 6 month stint in the hospital, he finally gave up and stopped eating/drinking. Was tired of laying in a bed. 74 years. I saw him yesterday around 2 pm, he died around 3 am this morning. He was miserable and I knew he wanted out. I wasn't sure I wanted to even share this, but here it is. I think I've made enough "friends" here that might want to know. Feel free to joke, say whatever you need to. You know me, laughter is the best medicine.

I just went through the same with my father (84) a couple weeks ago. He got lung cancer 8 years ago and they got it out with surgery. Lately heart problems and COPD were getting to him. Then they said the cancer was back. He elected to go into hospice and died 2 weeks later. We watched his Notre Dame beat USC on October 14th and he was gone the next morning. He kept asking when he would go and like your Father he was ready. I was in PA the last seven weeks visiting then helping my Mother out. I go home 4 or 5 times a year and got about a month of quality time with him in the end. I hope you did with yours too.
